Our third season has started!

2024 looks like really nice and promising. We have already around two meters of snow near the camp and much more in alpine. Forest zones are also well covered by white powder.

A perfect example of a cargo delivery.
Our camp is located away from any summer or winter roads and a snowmobile (preferably modern sport) is the only option to transport guest's gear, food and other camp's supply.
Walking light is the key to be fresh for the upcoming skitouring week ;)

Maybe it was not the longest, but definitely the most interesting and intense season in Racha.
Any problems can't beat six weeks with amazing people from all around the Globe.
We would like to say thank you to everyone who was a part in the season 2022/23! It was a pleasure to meet you!
Racha Backcountry Basecamp is officially closed for a summer nap.
And we are ready to receive your application for the season 2023/24.

Water supply.
What does it take to have running water in the basecamp? A water spring, a piece of pipe, a few efforts—and let the gravity do the magic! Yes, that’s what we thought.

The reality was, we dug the frozen mountain soil for four full days to put a 150m pipe underground. Which turned out to be not enough to prevent water from freezing. We had to be creative and build a water tower to get pressure and let the water flow.

The story did not end here. After we finally turned on a tap in the kitchen and saw the water running (a moment of truth!), we faced other challenges: how to insulate the water intake and the pipe in the camp, how to install a water boiler, and how to bring hot water to the shower…

What at first seemed a trivial task, demanded a lot of engineering efforts from us. But we are more than happy with the result, which some of you have already seen. For those who have not: book your tickets, we have more technical ideas to implement! 😀

Meet the founders. Serhii and Anton. Two Ukrainian guys who decided to escape from Gudauri ski resort and find their own way.
They have scouted Racha for a proper location, found all needed gear for the camp and successfully pulled up hundreds of kilogrammes of cargo in December.
From a concept to realisation.
Racha Backcountry Basecamp exists because of their energy and purposefulness.

Speaking of backcountry skiing, we have always wondered if it is possible to combine two things: living comfortably and enjoying the wilderness with no one around. Such a combination is rare—if not impossible—in the Caucasus. If you head into wild and remote places, you depend on the gear your carry on your back. If you prefer hotels, you are mostly limited to inhabited areas. And so Racha Backcountry Basecamp was born—as an attempt to break stereotypes and get comfort in the wilderness.

In 2021, we brought a mobile winter hotel to the mountains of Racha to create a living oasis in the middle of nowhere. Our hotel-ish basecamp consists of separate units: residential modules heated with wooden stoves, a sauna with a hot shower, and a dining/lounge pavilion.

But the concept of "comfort" is not only about accommodation. That les us to finding and creating relevant services and infrastructure, including logistics, gear shuttle, accommodation in the lowlands, and transfers from/to big airport cities.

The chosen format implies privateness and exclusiveness. To ensure that our guests are well attended to and have the best skiing options, we can only accommodate a limited number of people at once. Check out photos to get inspired and stay tuned for another story!
