CLIMBING MOUNT LAYLA 15/9 - 17/9 (click on video for full view)

Mountain was already in wintry mode with fresh snow and freezing morning. Crevasses were half-hidden and we had to take extra care when crossing the glacier.
And our reward was picking those delish wild berries on the way back to valley 😋

If you have only one full day in Mestia and can not leave without tackling a summit 🙂 Lötraldash (3343m) is an ideal choice.
It has some scrambling, snow ridge and splendid views from the top.
And if you stay more than one day worth it all the same!

Among the most beautiful peaks of the Caucasus... This is Shtavleri (3997m) rising 3000 meters above Nakra valley in the western part of Svaneti.
Covered by steep crevassed glaciers it has only one route which is relatively easy and in June I am ready to guide you all the way to the top! 🙂

THE LAST CLIMB OF 2022 SEASON

Peak Kakhiani (3702m) from Mestia in just one long day.
The day was mostly cloudy with short spells of snow. Gusty winds on the top.
Mestia - summit (8,5 hours). Return trip - 4 hours

on Mt.Layla. We made it in 32 hours from door to door 🙂

THE FRST
climb of Layla (4008m) in this season! With Adri and Almanas who came here from Barcelona.
We had plenty of fresh (and rather wet) snow on the glacier and had to navigate in almost complete white-out. It was a good boot camp experience and warm-up for them prior to scaling Kazbek (which they did yesterday).

hike yesterday! We climbed to some remote waterfall above Mestia. Totall off-trail through places frequented by bears 😛

BETWEEN WINTER AND SPRING
with Patrick (who climbed Layla with me last summer) we had some fun reaching 2550m hill in front of Ushba. Snow line was at 2000m and above it the surface was mostly solid.
