Starting from today Svaneti is celebrating Lamproba🔥🔥🔥
Each year, since ancient times, ‘Lamproba’ was celebrated in every region of Georgia however, nowadays, this holiday is celebrated only in the Svaneti region. Root of this word ‘Lampros’ is of Greek origin and it means the “light, or shiny”.
Lamproba does not have a certain set date and each year it’s celebrated on different dates. Usually, it depends on Easter and is celebrated 10 weeks before Easter, according to the Georgian Orthodox Calendar.
In comparison with other holidays, the celebration of this day is very unique. The places where Lamproba is celebrated, at night are lightened with torches, which adds a magical look to the whole environment. The torches are made only from Oak and Birch tree branches, one week before the holiday itself. The amount of torches depends on the number of men in the family.
Close to the evening, one torch is lightened in front of every house in the village, during this time women are preparing the feast. At night, all Men are lighting the rest of the torches and everyone starts to gather at one specific spot that was agreed beforehand (usually its yard of the temple). They put all those torches together creating a huge fire, meantime women are bringing the special food that they had made specifically for this day.
Following that everyone starts to say a special prayer. They are asking God for peace and kindness. They say the prayers for Archangels and Saint George, asking them for well-being of the youth and for the future generation. After the mass prayer is over, people are starting to have fun, they are dancing, playing, singing, and having other fun activities all night long.

Vardzia / Вардзия
Вардзия – памятник XII века, город, высеченный руками человека в горах во время золотого века Грузии. Несмотря на то, что большая часть комплекса разрушена, это место по-прежнему поражает посетителей своей грандиозной красотой. Комплекс расположен на высоте 1300 метров над уровнем моря, протяженностью более полукилометра и состоит из 13 этажей. Изначально он был построен как укрытие грузинской армии, защищающей границы от вражеских атак с юга, однако вскоре комплекс вырос и превратился в большой город, вмещающий нескольких тысяч солдат и жителей.
Вардзия – еще один наглядный пример, доказывающий существование великой цивилизации в 12 веке в Грузии. Это еще одно место, обязательное к посещению, которое навсегда останется в вашей памяти.
Vardzia is a 12th-century monument, a city that was carved by human hands inside the mountains during the golden ages of Georgia. Even though most of the part of the complex is destroyed, this place still astonishes viewers with its grand beauty. The complex is located at 1,300 meters above sea level, stretched over half kilometers long, and consists of 13 floors. From the origin, it was built to be the hideout of the Georgian army protecting the borders from the enemy attacks from the south, however soon the complex grew and became a big city, holding over a few thousand soldiers as well as other civilians
