A quieter version of Dubai? Then consider Oman. It has all the polish and high standards of hospitality associated with the Middle East, but offers a more low-key relaxed vibe. We particularly rate , which is located in the Musandam Peninsula, a two hour drive from Dubai. It is a true barefoot luxury retreat with strong eco credentials, which feels authentic, romantic and relaxing. We had a client recently stay here as part of their honeymoon, and they got to enjoy massages on the beach and we arranged the charter of a traditional Dhahab boat tracing the footsteps of ancient traders and legendary pirates, revealing the hidden beauty of the Musandam fjords.

We recently curated a 23-day journey through the magical lands of Egypt, Turkey and Morocco for a special family. One of the highlights of this crafted a tailor-made itinerary was visiting the newly opened at Giza, accompanied by a specialist historian. The museum is a marvel in itself, housing an incredible collection of artefacts. Our clients even had private access to explore the legendary Sphinx's paws, followed by lunch at restaurant overlooking the pyramids. To complete their journey, they also took a private charter boat on the Nile, visiting the Luxor Temple in Thebes. If you’re looking ahead to an early spring (or early Easter school holidays) getaway then Morocco is an ideal choice. The Wix Squared team recently stayed at Richard Branson's newly reopened hotel, which is just an hour south of Marrakech. Alex and her young family experienced the new 3-bedroom riads in this sprawling five-star property. There will also be a kids club opening later this year, but during our stay she loved the new tented restaurant, the panoramic vistas and the luxury of both a private pool and hot tub for all the family to enjoy. Up in the stunning High Atlas mountains we can arrange an array of activities whether hiking or e-biking in the mountains or perhaps cooking and dining with local Bedouin.

Iceland's northern fjords, particularly Yjafjörður, are a prime whale-watching destination. Renowned for their rich marine life, these waters offer a high chance of spotting majestic humpback and minke whales. With daily tours departing from multiple harbours, you can embark on an unforgettable adventure, witnessing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. We think the best time to visit Iceland for whale watching is during the summer months, from June to August. This is when the waters are calmest and the marine life is most active.

The solar maximum, the highest rate of solar activity during the sun's eleven-year solar cycle, is predicted to peak this winter. The solar maximum refers to the electrically charged particles the sun hurls towards Earth that cause the Northern Lights. The best time to see the Northern Lights is between December-January, when the nights are at their longest with clear skies. We can assign you a personal guide who will track the Northern Lights each evening and take you to the best place to see them - just when the night sky is the perfect backdrop for the green and sometimes red lights swirling high above. We highly recommend Deplar Farm, an old sheep farm that has been converted into a luxury retreat and spa, set in a remote valley encircled by 3000ft peaks. It truly is a wonderful setting to be at one with nature.

One of our favourite places to stay in Galle, Sri Lanka is which has exciting news - a new, long awaited pool with drinks service to enjoy the warm sunshine. This former spice merchant’s home has been lovingly restored to honour the Fort’s rich history and vibrant culture. It is a great base from which to enjoy one of our street food tasting tours or cookery courses that we can arrange.

Our clients have just returned from a 16 day tour of India. The trip covered a wealth of cultural experiences but perhaps two highlights were Amritsar - taking in the Golden Temple, which holds the Sikhs' holy scripture, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Here, they discovered the world’s largest community kitchen and got to try rolling chapatis and serving free food to the devotees. The second highlight was their visit to Nalanda, a Buddhist centre and the world's oldest university since the fifth century. The rural landscape here is dotted with Hindu and Buddhist temples and monasteries, offering a serene sense of calm and contemplation. We received this lovely message from them whilst travelling: “Nalanda and Rajgir have been a revelation to us from the amazing and breathtaking historical and religious sites to just witnessing day to day rural and city life. We have been very well looked after by your man on the ground Brajesh and a very experienced driver Ramesh who will be joining us tomorrow in Varanasi.”

As Bhutan opens up to tourists, with a reduction to its daily tourist tax and new direct flights from Dubai on , our clients recently experienced a phenomenal trip to the Land of the Thunder Dragon. Let us share their words on this once in a lifetime holiday:
“Thank you Alex very much indeed for the week we have just enjoyed in Bhutan. We cannot begin to tell you how fabulous Karma and Yeshi have been as guides and drivers. We have learnt so much about the country, the religion and culture of Bhutan. Everything has run so smoothly and they have managed to get us to all of the right places at exactly the right time, as we have been blessed by visiting temples, the University and Monasteries where special ceremonies were starting which we were able to witness and we felt very privileged and lucky because of this.”
The trip encompassed many of the ‘must-do’ experiences in the so-called ‘happiest nation’ in the world, such as the Black The Black-Necked Crane Festival - an annual event held in Bhutan each November to celebrate the arrival of the endangered Black-necked cranes in the Phobjikha Valley. Our clients also enjoyed an authentic Bhutanese hot stone bath that involves heating river stones which release minerals, creating a relaxing and therapeutic soak. And of course, no trip to Bhutan would be complete without visiting the Tiger's Nest - a sacred Buddhist site nestled dramatically on a cliffside in the Paro Valley. The iconic monastery clings to a cliff face at an elevation of about 3,000 meters (9,840 feet) above the valley floor and is truly breathtaking.

Food is often the highlight of any trip to Japan. Start with a visit to the famous fish market and tuna auction in Tokyo, learn the art of sushi making from a head chef, embrace the rituals of a traditional tea ceremony or partake in a Japanese whisky or sake tasting. Wherever you eat, be it in a local pub in the city, a 10 course Kaiseki meal in a ryokan, a bento box on the Shinkansen or a Michelin starred restaurant in Tokyo – you will struggle to criticise the delicious fresh seasonal ingredients, beautiful presentation and immaculate service. In fact we have recently been learning more about the very specialised art of ‘chanoyu' which is one of the world’s most intricate ways of enjoying a cup of tea. Before you even get to the actual tea ceremony, guests must jump through various etiquette hoops made up of bows and cleansing rituals. The host meticulously prepares the tea by whisking matcha powder with hot water, creating a smooth, foamy beverage. The tea is then offered among the guests, accompanied by a series of respectful bows and adherence to precise ceremonial protocols. It might not be the obvious first choice, but if you are keen to combine a ski trip with jaw-dropping landscapes then Iceland offers unique downhill and cross-country ski areas with terrain unlike anything you've seen before, plus incredible backcountry potential!

The ski resorts in Iceland are mostly found in the north of the country. There are a few slopes within really easy reach of Reykjavík too, though. If you are used to skiing the mega-resorts of the Alps or similar, then you will find Iceland’s resorts quite bijou. This also means that the slopes will be much quieter in general than you are likely accustomed to. This is great news for beginners, who will get to practice on uncrowded blue and green runs but also for the more extreme heli-skiers there is a world of powder to be discovered.

It was our pleasure to help @rosannafalconer discover hidden Delhi with her lovely young family and team her up with our local expert guide, Gagan. He captured her brief perfectly, taking her family to quieter beauty spots without the crowds. Their path less travelled started in Hauz Khas in Southern Delhi where 12th and 13th century ruins surround a stunning resevoir and where monkeys and peacocks roam in dappled sunshine. Gagan then took them to the Mughai garden of Sunder Nursery with its 90 acres of gardens and wildlife, where they could spot marble lotus flowers and heritage monuments.
