KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UK, GREAT BRITAIN, BRITAIN & ENGLAND

A lot of people in Nigeria and indeed all over the world, including well travelled, elite class people often c0nfuse England, United Kingdom, Britain and Great Britain. Well, here's the way to differentiate them:

England is a country just as Nigeria, and its capital is London just like Abuja is the capital of Nigeria.

Great Britain is a collection of 3 countries which came together as one country and has its capital as London. Those 3 countries are:

1. England,
2. Scotland and
3. Wales.

When you include Northern Ireland to these 3 countries, they become United Kingdom (union of four nations) Viz:
1. England,
2. Scotland,
3. Wales, and
4. Northern Ireland.

That is why it is referred to as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Collectively, the four are taken as one country. And when this is the case, London is its capital.

Note however that these four individual nations all have their own respective capitals.

Accordingly, the capital of
Scotland is Edinburgh,
Wales is Cardiff;
Northern Ireland is Belfast.
England is London.

Ps: Northern Ireland is not to be mistaken for the Republic of Ireland. The latter is a separate country and its capital is Dublin.

FEW THINGS TO TAKE NOTE ABOUT TRANSIT VISA

Millions of people travel to different destinations every year. Unfortunately, not all flights can be finished in one journey without stopping somewhere along the way. For this reason, most countries issue transit visas to help travelers who will only be transiting in that specific country for a few hours until moving on to their destination.

WHAT IS A TRANSIT VISA?

A transit visa is a travel document allowing u to pass through another country until u reach ur destination. For example, if u are traveling from Ghana to the Canada, but u need to stop in the USA to continue ur flight for the US, u require a transit visa from the USA.
Transit visas are short-term n are usually not required for everyone— that is why it’s important to contact an embassy or consulate before u travel to see if u need a transit visa.

WHAT IS THE TRANSIT ZONE?

The transit zone is a designated area within an international airport where u can stay until ur flight to ur destination is ready to board. Transit zones allow u to wait in the airport without going through immigration— if u don’t leave the airport.

DO ONE NEED A TRANSIT VISA IF LEAVING THE TRANSIT ZONE?

You need a transit visa if u leave the transit area. However, nationals from specific countries (Iran, Syria, Guinea, etc.) will need a transit visa regardless of whether they leave the transit area or not.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRANSIT AND TRANSFER PASSENGERS

As a transit passenger, u'll be continuing ur journey on the same aircraft. While, as a transfer passenger, u'll continue ur flight in another aircraft or airline. Usually, for transfers, u must check in again at the airport.

IMPORTANT: You need to check with ur airline whether u need a visa when transferring during ur flight.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DIRECT, CONNECTING, AND NON-STOP FLIGHTS

There is a significant difference between a direct, connecting, and a non-stop flight:

A direct flight follows a route from point A to point B without changing flight numbers but may stop along the way to pick up new passengers.
A connecting flight follows a route from point A to point B with a stop in point C (in this case, you will need a transit visa).
A non-stop flight follows a route from point A to point B without stopping or transiting in point C.
Transit Visa Documents Required

THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR YOUR TRANSIT VISA APPLICATION:

>Airport transit visa application form.
>Your passport with six-month validity and blank pages.
>Passport identity pictures.
>Travel health insurance.
>Travel ticket to your destination country.
>Visa for your destination country (if required).
>Financial evidence that you can support your trip.

HOW TO GET A TRANSIT VISA?

Here’s how you can get a transit visa:

Check if u need an airport visa.
Prepare ur documents.
Locate a visa application center.
Submit ur application.

CHECK IF YOU NEED AN AIRPORT VISA

Before applying for an airport visa, you need to make sure u need one. Depending on ur nationality, your purpose of visit, and which country u'll be transiting to, you may not require a transit visa at all. You need to contact the airline n an embassy or consulate of ur destination country to verify this information.

PREPARE YOUR DOCUMENTS

If u need a transit visa, assemble n prepare ur documents. The list of required documents may change depending on ur transition country. However, u still need to have ur documents intact.

LOCATE A VISA APPLICATION CENTER

You need to find a representative of ur transit country, either an embassy or consulate or a visa application center. Once u find the visa office, make an appointment to attend ur interview n submit ur application.

SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

Finally, you can submit ur application n complete the visa interview. Please note that u must apply for a transit visa before u leave for ur flight— you cannot receive a transit visa at the airport.

TRANSIT VISA VALIDITY

A transit visa is usually valid for 24 hours, but it can be issued for a few days depending on the embassy, and ur transit country. It’s important to check ur visa validity period n complete ur transition within that timeframe, otherwise, you may risk incurring legal consequences.

CAN ONE USE HIS/HER TRANSIT VISA MORETHAN ONCE?

No, a transit visa is usually only a single-entry type of visa, which means as soon as u use it to transit to ur destination country it’s no longer valid. If u need to transit again, u must reapply for a new transit visa.

PLEASE NOTE... that if u are going to spend more time in ur transitioning country than ur transit visa allows, u need to apply for a tourist visa.

HOW MUCH DOES A TRANSIT VISA COST?

A transit visa may cost $25 up to $100, depending on the country. Several countries do not require an application fee for a transit visa.

TRANSIT VISA EXEMPTIONS

You are exempted from applying for a transit visa if one of the following applies to u:

>You already have a valid visa for the country in which you will transit.
>You hold a valid diplomatic passport.
>Your country has a bilateral agreement with your transit country.
>You won’t be leaving the transit zone (for nationals of specific countries).
>Your transition period will be less than 24 hours (not in all countries).

You need money to travel that’s why the embassy request for Bank Statement to proof that you have money.

If you don’t have money now, it doesn’t mean you can’t travel, it means you need to start planning ahead, secure enough funding then make the move.

For this and other reasons I start to ghost people who come clear “I don’t have money but I want to travel”.

It’s not always the case though that someone who does not have money can’t travel, No! That’s not what I mean.

You may not have money, but you must have a plan, you don’t just wake up travel anyone, you must plan financially, emotionally and psychologically.

I decided to use the Bus and Train services to the number homeless people sleeping around, some smoking, some picking food from dustbin and some standing but sleeping (maybe they’re on tramol), it breaks my heart.

If you wanna travel, plan, have an entry plan, retainer plan, and exit plan if for some reasons you enter a particular country and you don’t seem to have your way through.

I’m sad 😢

NEW RULES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TO STUDY IN CANADA 2024 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

The Canadian Government has made sudden changes for international students who want to study in Canada.
MARC MILLER, announced these changes n affected from January 1, 2024. The Government implemented a Cap on study permits, proof of finances has been increased, and changes in postgraduate work permits, etc.

ALL THE NEW RULES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 2024

As an aspiring student, u must be aware of the changes:

▪︎TEMPORARY CAP ON THE PERMITS

To manage high application volume, Canada has set a temporary cap of 360,000 new study permits for 2024. This meant that the maximum number of Canadian student visas would be limited to 360,000 for the 2024 intake.

▪︎COST OF LIVING AND PROOF OF FINANCIAL INCREASED

As an international student, u are always required to show proof of finances if u are coming to study in Canada at ur own expense.

= The minimum required financial proof of support has increased from $10,000 to $20,635 for all provinces except Quebec, effective January 1, 2024.

= For Quebec, the minimum is now $15,078 (except for students under 18, who require $7,541).

▪︎CHANGES TO POST-GRADUATION WORK PERMIT (PGWP)

= Master’s degree graduates will now be eligible for a 3-year PGWP, effective September 1, 2024.

= Graduates of master’s degree programs, even if less than two years in duration, also qualify for a 3-year PGWP.

= Students enrolled in programs under curriculum licensing agreements will no longer be eligible for PGWP after graduation, starting September 1, 2024.

▪︎PART-TIME WORKING HOURS LIMIT EXTENDED

The temporary 20-hour work limit exemption during studies has been extended until April 30, 2024.

▪︎SPOUSES OF OPEN WORK PERMIT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Spouses of international students with a study permit cannot directly apply for an open work permit anymore. They need to apply for a closed work permit tied to their spouse’s employer.

▪︎PROVINCIAL ATTESTATION LETTER

As of January 22, 2024, most new international undergraduate students studying in Canada must provide a province Attestation letter from a province or Territory with their study permit application.
The Provincial Attestation Letter will serve as proof that the student has been accounted for under a provincial or territorial allocation within the national cap. Some students are exempt, including master’s students as well as in-Canada study permit n work permit holders.
Provinces n territories, including British Columbia, have been asked to have a plan in place for issuing the letters by March 31, 2024. Those students who require a letter should not apply for a study letter until the process has been determined; however, students can prepare by putting together the required documents.
International students whose applications were received by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada before 8:30 am on January 22, 2024, as well as those who have already been approved for a study permit n intend to travel to Canada for an upcoming program, do not need to take further action as a result of the cap.
