Sɛ Shai, A State Without A Leader.

A Leader is an Abider, Aider, Ascender however not an Asunder.
Leaders are Abraders and Blenders who protects their Borders.
Can we say boldly that the above qualities depict that of our leaders within Sɛ our cherish motherland?

For three decades and still counting we are yet to see a Sɛ with a distinguish front and poised leader(s) aimed at eradicating the self inflated wounds.

Lies Sabotage Anarchy Usurpation and pretending you name it, the order of the day only for us to turn and preach togetherness.

From the days of the Dangme District, colonial and self Governments accorded Sɛ leadership the respect and honour they deserve. Is it the same situation now what has changed overtime?

Message from your Hiomerh Abude Royal Son, Samuel Nene Madjitey Kantamanso known on this blue app as Nene K T Nagai-Kassa a name by default from my ancestors whom from the Sɛyo (Shai Hills) lead their people to victory during the famous Battle Of Dodowa (Katamanso War).

, (Twin Rock), and , On the hills of (Agomeda) the ancestors look at you with pride and faith because you were once their fortress.

Sɛ a major Dangme tribe mostly called Shai because it's people once lived on the Shai Hills. The people of Sɛ can be found in the Southeastern corner of the Country Ghana and they celebrates the "Ngmayem Festival".

Customs and traditions of the Sɛ people makes the annual Ngmayem Festival, which is a harvest festival which through its traditional leadership (Chiefs - Matsɛmɛ, Asafoatsɛmɛ/Asabatsɛmɛ - Clan Heads/WarLords, Wɔnɔi/Wɔyoe - Chief Priests/Priestess etc) with gratitude offer thanksgiving to their maker "WA BƆLƆ MAWU" acknowledging his providence and care over the previous year and supplicate for his continuous bounty and protection in the coming years.

This however isn't the case for two decades now and beyond due to the fact that the three major divisions of Sɛ namely Mla Lekpedje (Head), Hiomerh (Defence) and Hiowerh (State Mankralo) are all faced with numerous litigations as to who is the right heirs to the various thrones.

This have paved way for the Manya Clan under the Hiomerh Division (Agomeda) to solely celebrate Ngmayem after which it is later climaxed at Dodowa, this also many do not understand however there is a meaning to that.Other Ngmayem Youth festivals have also surfaced over the past years.

Sɛli keep asking what has bedeviled us as a people whereby customs and traditions is on a decline. Once vibrant Sɛ is now lacking in development and wallowing in poverty yet clothed with wealth.
In a couple of months to come the Dangme tribe will kick start celebrating our annual festivals after the Homowo of the Ga's our brothers and sisters within the capital Accra.

From the corridors of the Hiomerh Abude Manheam Warrior Nene Madjitey Kantamansu (Nene K T Nagai-Kassa) kindly tell us your view on ,

It's 2024 would Sɛ be celebrating Ngmayem ? The question still remains unanswered.

It appears the woes of the Shai traditional area are far from over as the indigenes are waiting patiently to get the substantive paramount chief, a new controversy has hit the Katamansu gate , one of the gates in Agomeda that appointed Joseph Kofi Addai as Nene Nagai Kassah VIII.

National and Political significance.

"Ngma-yem" the Dangme Sɛ word for millet is , and is the act of eating the cereal grains (millet ngma). The festival is celebrated every year to remember a period of drought and hunger followed by abundant rains that led to a bountiful harvest of millet. The abundant rains and harvest happened after the ancestors of the area had offered prayers to the gods.

Exodus from Israel
The Sɛ people originated from Israel and in the course of their migration to their present-day abode, they encountered a severe drought which culminated in an extreme famine for a considerable period of time.

During the period, many lives were lost and in their desperation, prayers and sacrifices were made to their gods.
Unimpeachable oral traditions handed down from generations indicated that the gods of the Sɛ people responded and sent abundant rain that culminated in bounty harvest of millet such that they lacked storage capacity.

To celebrate the occasion and to hoot at hunger, the festival was marked as an annual celebration that takes place from the third week of the ninth (9th) month September to the first week of the tenth (10th) month October of every year.

Our festival must therefore represent this history and significance such that the above importance ought to be relevant in the lives of the people of Sɛ. Anything otherwise is a misrepresentation and need not to be entertained.

HIOMERH ABUDE ROYAL SON, GREAT GRANDSON OF NENE KWAME TAWIAH NAGAI-KASSA CHIEF OF HIOMERH ABUDE (AGOMEDA), GRANDSON OF OTSEAME TETTEH KWABLAH AND SON OF NENE KANTAMANSU ADJARTEY, ONE NENE KANTAMANSU MADJITEY Nene K T Nagai-Kassa WRITES:

We feel that a truly democratic system should take into consideration our tradition, history and culture. We must measure the performance of the modern political system since independence against our traditional system and see whether the modern period
could not have been improved by an interrelationship with the traditional system.

Attention must be drawn to certain socio-cultural values, such as consultation, voluntarism, participation, consensus and self-reliance which we cherish as a people, but
which we seem to have failed to integrate into the political order.
