Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII: Omanhene of Abeadze Traditional Area Urges Electoral Commission to Conduct Forensic Audit of Voters Register.

The immediate past Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to allow a forensic audit of the voter register compiled for the December 7 general elections.

His comment comes after growing tensions among Ghanaians regarding discrepancies uncovered during the recent exhibition of the register across the country.

At a press briefing in the Central Region, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII emphasized the need for transparency, citing allegations of inflated figures and unknown persons transferred into various constituency registers, specifically in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam and Pusiga Constituencies.

“The cost of violence, if any, far outweighs the cost of an audit,” Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII stated, highlighting the importance of ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.

He urged the EC, led by Jean Mensa, to heed the call from civil society organizations, political parties, and Ghanaians to conduct a forensic audit.

He further stressed that the call for a forensic audit aims to eliminate doubts and deepen confidence in the 2024 polls.

“With the elections looming, it is crucial to address concerns surrounding the voter register to prevent potential disputes and ensure a peaceful electoral process,” he indicated.
