Let's tour the Volta Region of Ghana this November for the Hogbetsotso Festival. Hogbetsotso is celebrated to remember the migration story or Exodus of the people of Anlo once called the Dagbo people at Notsie where they came from. It's always important to know who we are by embracing our culture and also be proud of it.
We invite our loved ones who have been far from home including the Diasporas to return home as warriors and experience their culture and it's spiritualities and benefits.
Always remember; Your Culture is your power. Your Culture makes you realise whom you are. Your Culture is Love.

Apetorku Gbodzi Shrine is located in Dagbamate village. Thousands of people (local and foreign) visit during the Easter and the mid-year festivals. The attendees come for spiritual and physical healings. They receive protection from any evil influences and spiritual guidance from the ancestors and gods.
The most interesting part of the festival is the animal offerings ritual. The animals are given by shrine members to show gratitude for their healing, protection, and guidance.
During the ritual, the animal's life is not taken by the hands of man. The animal surrenders to the gods and die independently. This means the shrine member's heart was pure. This is a place where people with evil intentions cannot live.

In the Ewe community, Hogbetsotso Za is one of the most prominent festivals celebrated by the chief's and people of Anlo. Hogbetsotso means coming from Hogbe (Notsie presently called the Republic of Togo). This is an annual celebration on the first Saturday of November. There are traditional drumming, singing of war songs, palanquins of different sizes in which King's sit in and some many more cultural activities. The Hogbetsotso Za festival is celebrated by the Anlos to commemorate their exodus and bravery of their traditional rulers. Through endurance and sacrifice, the rulers delivered them from the King called Agokoli. The Hogbetsotso Za festival reminds the Anlos of their ancestry and rekindles the bond of relationship that existed between them.

Afa is an ancient system of divination that is widely used by many indigenous African traditional spiritual systems throughout West Africa, and globally.
Afa is a complete system of prophetic knowledge, advice and divine wisdom. It is designed to reveal one's destiny and guide one when making important life decisions. The reason why Afa is important to the African is that it is unbiased, objective and gives clarity. For instance, if there is something beyond your understanding, a sickness or a challenges in life, Afa helps in solving those issues.

Ewes are a Gbe speaking ethnic group originally known as the Dogbo ethnic group.
According to history, Ewes migrated from area's in Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia in 11th century.
Oral tradition states the Ewes were led by an ancestor called Gu. Under his leadership, they settle at river Nile in present-day Egypt.

When it became increasingly difficult to live in Egypt, the Ewes left under the leadership of MI and migrated to Sudan amd settled there. The Ewes stayed for a short while due to famine and slave raids by the Arab slave traders. The Arab slave raiders preferred Africans due to their physique and courage.

During that time, schools were plentiful. The Ewes took great advantage of educational opportunities to become great scholars, in addition to merchants and farmers.
Then, the Ewes decided to leave Sudan and migrated into Abyssinia presently called Ethiopia. However, the slave raid continued, and they eventually decided to move out of Ethiopia.

This time, the Ewes moved southwest ward into the region between the bend of river Niger and the middle reaches of the Senegalese river. After a while, the Ewes moved closer to the Niger river into the present day Nigeria. That was at the height of the Oyo Empire, and they settled briefly at Ile-Ife in the Yoruba land. It was in Ile-Ife that revived and perfected the art of divination known as afa-kaka. This is the very same divination system which their ancestors abandoned.

Next, the Ewes entered Dahomey presently known as the Republic of Benin. They then settled in Ketu, a Yoruba town which was founded by the Yoruba people. While in Dahomey, they splited into three groups. The first group settled at the bank of the Mono River and named that place Tado which became a powerful kingdom.
The second group moved and settled between the Mono and Haho Rivers. This settlement became Notsie presently called the Republic of Togo.
The third group settled at Dogbo-Nyigbo, which later became the kingdom of Dahomey.

In all account, Notsie became the last migration and dispersion of the Ewes. It was also a crucial and significant point in the history of the Ewes, especially the Anlos.
