Steeped in a history that has evolved from its strategic location at the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula, where Europe meets Africa, visitors are assured of breath-taking scenery, wildlife and architecture, that captures the unique flavour of this Mediterranean City and its inhabitants. As a VAT free jurisdiction, Gibraltar's popularity with visitors is enhanced by its value added shopping experience in famed Main Street. Strategically located in the mouth of the Mediterranean, the Rock of Gibraltar is an international symbol of strength. Connected to by a sand strip of land, Gibraltar has remained a territory since 1704, which is an association greatly celebrated in the territory. The dramatic Rock of Gibraltar is the most famous sight, but the tiny territory actually has a huge amount to offer visitors. There are five great beaches in Gibraltar. Those located in the eastern side of the Rock of Gibraltar (Eastern Beach, Catalan Bay and Sandy Bay) consist of soft sand, whilst those on the west, (Little Bay and Camp Bay) are rock beaches. All the beaches are clean and tidy, and despite their close proximity, each has a distinct atmosphere, from the tourist feel of Eastern Beach to the quiet, fishing village style beach at Sandy Bay. Of course, water sports are in high concentration on the Rock of Gibraltar. There are an amazing range of sailing schools, and villas in Gibraltar are always filled with scuba divers hoping to explore some of the 30 shipwrecks which rest in local waters. Although sailing and scuba diving are by far the most popular water sports from Gibraltar accommodation, windsurfing and fishing are also hugely popular. Amazingly for such a small territory, there are actually a huge number of attractions to visit from a Gibraltar property. The casinos in Gibraltar are hugely popular, offering many hours of top entertainment during the evenings, and the nightlife, although concentrated, is excellent, with plenty of little bars, restaurants and clubs, often with live entertainment, providing the city with a fantastic atmosphere every night. There are also many places to visit from a villa in Gibraltar during daylight hours. The trip to the Upper Rock is on the top of every tourist’s list, but the walk to St Michael’s Cave should not be missed either. Walking the Great Siege Tunnels is a wonderful experience, and the Botanical Gardens, Cathedral of St Mary the Crowned, the Moorish Castle and Nelson’s Anchorage shouldn’t be missed on a tour from Gibraltar accommodation either. Gibraltar is actually home to ’s only semi-wild apes. The ape colony is an essential sight during any stay in Gibraltar , and has become hugely famous with Gibraltar tourists. There are frequent ferries to from Gibraltar, making the north African country a perfect destination for a day trip. The magnificent beaches, inspiring scenery and absorbing mix of cultures which dominate Moroccan holidays are of huge appeal, and certainly worth investigating, if only for a day, from Gibraltar accommodation. Gibraltar benefits from a wonderfully temperate climate, enjoying daily temperatures of around 30°C in August and 15°C in December. During the winter months, only around 30% of days see rain, whilst in summer, you could easily be in Gibraltar accommodation for three months without seeing a drop of rain. Holidays in Gibraltar are made hugely feasible by the number of cheap flights to Gibraltar Airport (GIB) landing on a daily basis. Amazingly, Gibraltar airport is just 500m from the very centre of the city. British Airways, Monarch and EasyJet all provide cheap flights to Gibraltar.
