Greenland, the largest island in the world, has incredible landscapes but also a fascinating history of exploration and settlement. 💙✨
The first known European to reach Greenland around the year 982 was Erik the Red, a Norse explorer from Iceland. Around the year 1000, Erik the Red's son, Leif Eriksson, returned to Greenland and brought with him the first Christian missionaries. Shortly afterward, the first Christian church on the North American continent, Tjodhilde's Church, was built in Brattahlið. Today, a reconstruction of the small church can be seen in Qassiarsuk. The Qassiarsuk and Igaliku areas in the region represent the most comprehensive and rich examples of Norse and Greenlandic farming culture, recognized and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. 🌍

Discover South Greenland – where Greenland is truly green.🥾❄️
Narsarsuaq is the gateway to the lush valleys and Norse ruins of South Greenland and it is the location of the Greenland Arboretum where you can wander through a forest of tall trees. During summer, it is filled with Greenlandic wildflowers that guide your way to viewpoints overlooking nearby glaciers.🌸
The Greenlandic Arboretum is one of the most extensive tree-line arboreta in the world, comprising about 150 hectares, with about 110 species and about 600 provenances.
Many of the trees are labelled and you’ll find the different species all jumbled up right next to each other as you wander the forest.🌱🌲
