When Mads and Jens arrived in Qeqertarsuaq with their surfboards in December, I had no idea what went into finding the perfect surf spot. I’ve never surfed a day in my life! But after a few conversations, I learned about the intricate science of surfing: the seabed, wind direction, speed, sea currents, tides—every detail mattered. 🌊
Together, we scouted the shorelines until we found the ideal spot. Then the real adventure began—a 6-hour snowmobiling journey through Greenland’s wild winter terrain. ❄️
Deep powder snow bogged us down in some areas, while rocky patches with too little snow forced us to lift the snowmobile by hand to keep moving. It was exhausting, but every challenge brought us closer to the waves we were chasing.
And wow, was it worth it.
Under the glow of winter darkness, Mads and Jens hit the Arctic waves like pros, just one week before Winter Solstice, the darkest day of the year. 🏄♂️🔥 The icy water didn’t faze them, and the thrill of seeing them ride in this surreal, untouched setting was unforgettable.
