Fun fact or just a Myth? 🧐🤔
According to the ancient Greek history🏛️, Poseidon 🧜♂️, god of the sea 🌊 and Athena, goddess of peace and wisdom 🦉, disputed over whose name would be given to the newly built city, in the land of Attica. To end this dispute, it was decided that the city would be named after the one who offered the most precious gift to the citizens. 🎁
Poseidon offered fresh water, while Athena struck her spear on the ground and it turned into an olive tree 🕊️.
It was decided that the olive tree was more valuable to the people of Attica than fresh water, hence the new city was named Athens in honor of Athena!
Poseidon was very angry about this and struck his trident 🔱 into a rock 🪨, causing salt water 💦 to flow. Because of this, the city of Athens is said to have problems with its drinking water supply to this day.

The Baklava we recognize today which came to perfection during the Ottoman Empire 🇹🇷, which ruled from the 14th to the early 20th century. The Ottomans refined the pastry, creating the thin, delicate layers of phyllo dough and introducing a wide variety of nuts and spices 👨🍳.
It became a main dessert in the Topkapi Palace 🕌 in Istanbul, where it was served to royalty and dignitaries.
In Greece 🇬🇷, baklava has been embraced as a quintessential part of its culinary heritage. 🍽️
💡The word ‘baklava’ originates from the Mongolian word ‘bayla’ which means ‘to tie’ or ‘pile up’ or ‘wrap up.’

Syrup, honey, nuts, filo dough and spices – these are the ingredients for Greek desserts! Greeks love to bake and eat sponge cakes soaked in syrup. Ravani, baklava and orange pie (portokalopita) are just a few of. Don't forget that a dessert is not just a meal... It's a moment, and life is a collection of such moments!
Yummy 🤤🥧🍮🍰🍦🍯

Easter in Corfu
#eastergreece CORFU🎇🎆
Easter on beautiful Corfu island comes with loud music and a loud band. 🎺🐣
It’s not about partying. The Corfu Philharmonic Orchestra – Corfu has a long musical tradition dating back to the Venetian times – walks slowly around the town playing slow sorrowful hymns and anthems. The greatest feast of the Greek Orthodox Church and of the whole Christianity is celebrated in a unique magnificent and melodic way, and no one can escape from its emotion.
But don’t be carried away by the devotional atmosphere. You have to be cautious, otherwise you risk being hit by a clay pot falling from the sky. This is the stunning custom of “botides”. Hundreds of red-painted clay pots, from huge to small, are thrown from the balconies on Corfu’s central Liston square and smashed to pieces with a loud bang. This is how Corfiots try to exorcise evil by this loud noise. A custom that dates back to antiquity and combines Christianity and paganism in a really interesting way; This breaking of the clay pots is used to symbolize and honor the awakening of nature after the winter sleep; Old pots must be broken, new pots should be used to collect the new fruits of the spring.
If you happen to experience this unique experience, keep a broken piece of a clay pot. It will bring you good luck throughout the year. At least that’s what they say!
