Carrying their memories from Africa and overcoming all adversity, the people who were brought by slave ships from Africa to supply the plantations of the Portuguese or Dutch colonialists with labourers, managed to survive and leave their mark in a city with a strong black presence.

Networks of solidarity and survival developed around the Valongo pier in an area covered by the neighbourhoods of Saúde, Gamboa and Santo Cristo, nicknamed "Pequena África" ("Little Africa"), where Afro-Brazilians practiced their particular religions such as Cantoble.

It was here that the first carnival "ranchos" were created - the beginnings of the now famous samba schools of Rio de Janeiro.🎼🇧🇷

In "Little Africa" there are many murals inspired by the black heritage, as well as the excellent Museum of Afro-Brazilian History and Culture of Rio de Janeiro .rio

The largest city in South America, Sao Paulo, in my opinion it's the world capital of street art. The scene there is magnificent, whether it is illegal "pixos" or large scale murals by Brazilian and international artists.

A week ago, we completed a big trip to Brazil and Portugal in the best way possible by doing a street art tour in Lisbon with the super nice guys of

We wandered around different neighborhoods and learned a lot about the past and present of this unique city that retains its unchanging charm despite the changes it has undergone in recent years.🇵🇹

Street art is, of course, superb, whether it is murals by internationally renowned artists or smaller works by local artists that give the city a special identity. Some of the works we have admired have been realised in the context of actions organised and supported by the team of Lisbon street art tours.

Another year comes to an end, and a new one begins very soon!
🔜2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣⬅️

2024 has been a very creative year for us. We organized various events and large-scale murals, met wonderful Greek and foreign artists, and collaborated with extraordinary people who shared with us and supported our vision with their strengths.💙

In addition, we took the next big step, by opening our own space, our art lab where from now on we will be hosting a variety of artistic activities: artistic workshops for everyone, events, and many surprises that we will announce in the next few days!!

We are very happy and proud of all this. At the same time, we are grateful for all the people who entrusted us to carry out all these projects and for our sponsors who supported us so generously.

Yesterday we premiered with a birthday graffiti party!

On the occasion of Dimitris and Nicolas' birthdays (🎈1️⃣0️⃣✨️) we had the pleasure (and the courage!😁💙) to offer a street art tour to twenty kids aged from five to fifteen and then to follow a graffiti workshop!

The kids had a great time, and we had a great time with them! We painted on a wall, made stencil art on tote bags, listened to music, and also enjoyed birthday cake🎂

Our Story

Hello everyone!

We are the @greek_couple_travellers from Instagram, or simply Kalliopi and Thomas!

We got married in the summer of 2019 and even though we grew up in completely opposite suburbs of Athens we now live in the historic district of Kerameikos to the west of the Acropolis, only a five-minute walk from the greatest ancient cemetery of this city.

Although we share many common passions, our greatest one is our love for street art, urban exploration, history, and travel! In recent years we have organized a huge number of artistic walks both in and around the city.
