Museums across the country are open again to the public since June the 15th. Wonderful and unique museums, archaeological or not, open their doors to welcome wonderful people, after adopting all the necessary security measures, in accordance with the instructions given by the National Health Organization and the Ministry of Culture.

The museums will observe the so-called “social distance” as well as the mandatory use of a non-medical mask, while there exists an 8 people maximum rule for the group tours.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis paid a symbolic visit to the archeological site and the museum of the Ancient Agora of Athens.“One cannot imagine Greece with closed archeological sites and museums. We are very happy that all Greek museums have opened so that they can safely welcome visitors and all our fellow citizens who want to rediscover the beauty, the magic of this special place, but also of all our archeological sites”, he noted.

Magnificent blue and purple “Jacaranda” trees. Purple like most of the summer sunsets. Blue, like the Athenian sky. They decorate Rigilis and Athinas streets as well as the alley in front of the historic Zappeion Mansion and Agias Eirinis square. Greece welcomes tourists, starting from 15/6 to Athens airport, as well as, Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia”. As of July 1 onwards, flights from abroad will be allowed to all airports in Greece.

Ancient Olympia, one of Greece’s most popular archaeological sites, will be soon introduced to people around the world via a new app to be designed and sponsored by Microsoft.

Greece’s Central Archaeological Council recently approved the project for the development of a digital application that will offer a 3D presentation of the monuments and artifacts of the archaeological site and museum in Ancient Olympia, as they were in antiquity. The tour will be based on scientific data provided by a special committee to be established by the Greek Culture Ministry.

Apart from the app, Microsoft will also create a website that will offer a virtual tour around Ancient Olympia’s archaeological site. Both website and app will be developed at no cost for the Greek state, as part of Microsoft’s “AI for Good” Corporate Social Responsibility program.

The project’s details were discussed during a meeting in Athens, between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Microsoft President Mr. Brad Smith.

“The promotion of Greek cultural heritage through the use of modern technology is a basic desideratum and a political choice of the Ministry of Culture. This sponsorship, apart from highlighting the archaeological site and museum of Ancient Olympia, also contributes to the promotion of the values of harmony and peace that are strongly connected with the sanctuary of Olympia as host of the [ancient] Olympic Games,” said minister Mrs. Mendoni.

During his visit to Greece, Mr. Smith said he felt “impressed and honored” to visit the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
