Our itchy feet travellers🧳couldn't resist the allure of the Central Asia !!

So an exploration ✈️ trip to was in order, to discover all its hidden treasures.

Located in the heart of Central Asia, on the famous Silk Road, between Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan, Uzbekistan is one of the two double landlocked countries in the world, meaning that to get to the sea you have to go through two other countries

🕍Our clients had the opportunity to wander through the enchanting streets of glorious Samarkand, admire the majestic architecture of charming Bukhara, and explore the vibrant Tashkent. Landmark cities, with wondrous mosques, madrassah, mausoleums, palaces, khans and bustling markets, bazaars and silk workshops.

🕍They also took the opportunity to visit neighbouring Tajikistan, a country of rugged beauty and rich culture.

At AllAboutTravel, we don't just create itineraries, we tailor every aspect of your trip to ensure it's nothing short of extraordinary and provide a seamless travel experience for our travellers.

A special thank you goes out to 🙏Φίλιππος Μαλταμπές for the amazing💯 photos he took and is so kindly sharing with our community.

A Portuguese Outing to Remember 💯

🇵🇹 Azores, Porto, Lisbon are your passport to a vibrant culture, rich history and breathtaking scenery.

⛰ My adventure began in the Azores, an archipelago of 9 volcanic islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. At this time of year, we were only able to visit Sao Miguel, the largest island in the complex. I hiked along lush trails leading to hidden lagoons where I plunged into the calm waters surrounded by lush vegetation. ⛰ The island's volcanic activity manifested itself in bubbling hot springs and steaming 'fumaroles' (hot springs where the water table rises close to the surface).

🇵🇹 Second stop is Porto, a city renowned for its historic charm and delicious cuisine. Walking through the winding streets of the Ribeira district, I marvelled at the colourful buildings decorated with intricate azulejos, traditional Portuguese tiles that tell stories of the past. I enjoyed a leisurely cruise along the Douro River, taking in the panoramic views of Porto's skyline, punctuated by the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge.

However, a trip to the renowned🍇 Douro Valley wine region was in order. I learnt about the region's unique microclimate and terroir, which give Douro wines their distinctive characteristics, renowned for their depth, complexity and longevity.

Portuguese gastronomy is a delightful fusion of flavours, with bacalhau🐟 (the salted codfish known as Portugal's 'national dish'), with hundreds of ways to prepare it, a perfect pairing with Douro wine.🍷

🇵🇹 Leaving Porto behind, I made my way to Lisbon, the vibrant capital that effortlessly blends tradition and modernity. The city's 7 hills are dotted with historic monuments such as the imposing São Jorge Castle and the ornate Jerónimos Monastery.

Strolling through the narrow streets of the Alfama district, I encountered lively fado performances and stumbled upon charming cafés serving freshly baked pastéis de nata, Portugal's beloved custard tarts.🥧

As the calendar resets a new trip was in order to kick off the 2024 adventure’s bucket list!!!

, is one of the Sporades islands, but not the typical one. It’s distinctive landscape, a sweet mix of lush pine🌳 forests and greenery landscapes combined with rocky areas and unspoilt 🐚beaches, it’s what makes this island so unique.

💠The historic old town of Skyros is a testament to a rich cultural heritage. With ruins dating back to the Stone Age, the Byzantine castle, the views to the sea and the rest of the Northern Sporades are overwhelming.

💠Not to be missed is the Archaeological Museum of Skyros, where visitors can also see a small replica of a traditional Skyrian house.

💠The island is famous for its traditional Skyrian🏺pottery, the greatest asset of Skyros popular culture, as well as being home to the Skyrian 🐎pony - tiny, unique and one of the rarest horses in the world.

💠The local pies are also famous: The oil pie is made with fluffy dough and served with local cheese. The "teropitaria" - pies 🥟made with nuts, rice and mizithra cheese, the "trahanopites" and cream pies are delicious👌

Our warmest and heartfelt 🫶 thanks to our dearest friend and associate Amalia Nikolaou for her amazing enthusiasm in showing us around the island, its people and their unique way of life.

We are also grateful to the Perigiali Hotel for their wonderful hospitality during our stay Perigiali Hotel

It was a wonderful day - meeting suppliers and exploring the parts of Athens that are emerging as new tourist areas. With the ☀️sunny weather continuing to favor our city, we took the opportunity last week to visit the Brown Acropol Hotel, located on Omonia Square in the city center, in the business heart of the city.

With a unique design feel, all areas and rooms are a vibrant blend of modern elements with a retro touch.

The spacious rooftop, a perfect place to relax, 🧘made us even more excited for the not-so-distant spring-summer of 2024!!!

Brown AcropolThank you for allowing us to explore your remarkable hotel.

Epirus a different Greece.
Rugged mountains, hidden bays, traditional villages, natural beauty and exhilarating activities: has it all.

At the crossroads of civilisations and landscapes in the west of the country, between the Pindos Mountains ⛰️ and the Ionian Sea 🌊, you'll find a different . Peaks, gorges, rare plants and animals, lakes, rivers and an indented coastline of sandy beaches complement the ancient ruins of Dodoni and dozens of medieval castles, monasteries, arched bridges and traditional stone-built villages.

The destinations are many and varied. From the picturesque Zagorohoria villages, Metsovo and Tzoumerka, to the atmospheric Ioannina and the summer resorts of Parga and Syvota, Epirus welcomes you all year round and delivers on all its promises.

On this trip we enjoyed seeing and swimming in the famous River Acheron, a mythical river associated with Greek mythology. The river is known for its clear blue waters and is a great place for outdoor activities such as hiking and rafting. It is also interesting to explore the ancient Necromanteion, a site believed in ancient times to be the entrance to the underworld.

Discover the Authentic Athens in August!

Summer getaway in Greece? Why not choose the enchanting city of Athens instead of an island? It may be considered an unconventional destination for August, but let us reveal why it's worth visiting the Greek capital during this month.

First and foremost, Athens in August offers a unique opportunity to feel the pulse of the city when it's in full swing. The summer nights bring a vibrancy and energy to the streets of Athens that are hard to find elsewhere. Locals and visitors alike fill the squares, restaurants, and bars, creating an incredible blend of culture and social life. Αlso, is your only chance to see a not overcrowded Athens, as almost all people are going on vacation at this month.

Start your day with breakfast in the traditional pedestrian street of Anafiotika in Psirri. Here, you'll find small cafes and bakeries offering delicious treats and fresh pastries. Savor your coffee and observe the local life unfolding.

If you love art and culture, Athens is the perfect place for you. Except from visiting
the famous landmarks, (Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum, the National Archaeological museum, etc). you can take a 1,5 hour trip and attend a theatrical performance at the renowned Epidaurus Theater. This summer, the Epidaurus Festival hosts theatrical plays that revive ancient Greek tragedy, creating a magical atmosphere under the open sky.

For a more adventurous experience, visit the Philopappos Hill, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city. Hike up the hill or rent a bike and explore the paths leading to the top. You'll be rewarded with a unique panorama that combines ancient and modern Athens.

In the evening, uncover hidden bars and music venues in the city. Seek out secret cocktail bars tucked away in traditional courtyards and taste unique drinks infused with Greek elements. The small music venues offer live music from local artists, creating an atmosphere filled with vibrancy and relaxation.

And what about gastronomy? Athens offers an amazing variety of flavors and restaurants. From traditional taverns serving classic Greek specialties to modern eateries offering creative cuisine. We highly recommend you to indulge in fresh fish and seafood, which are abundant in Greece during the summer.

So, reconsider your plans and leave the islands for another time. Athens in August is a choice you won't regret. Experiences of culture, gastronomy, and entertainment. Come and discover the authentic beauty of Athens and live a summer that will stay with you forever.

Last week we went exploring the eastern part of Crete, Lasithi.
We stayed at the capital city of the region, Agios Nikolaos, which is a picturesque town built almost on the sea, but we also visited the 'Best Of', in order to present it to you!
Lasithi is considered as the most quiet place in the island, as long as it has less inhabitants than Chania, Rethimno and Heraklion, and its beautiful and unique landamrks still remain unexplored from the majority of tourists.
So, let's see the 'Best Of Lasithi':

-Spinalonga island : This little island, located opposite of the Elounda Bay, is actually a very important monument. Not only was a fortress since ancient years from ancient Minoans, and then all the conquerers of Crete (Venetians and Turks mostly), due to its unique location, but it was also was used as a l***r colony from 1903 to 1957.
Spinalonga has appeared in novels, television series, and a short film
-Toplou Monastery: Built in 15th century, it is considered as one of the most famous and beautiful monasteries in Crete. It has a rich history, from Venetian times until WW2 and today.
- Kritsa Village: It is a famous and picturesque village of the region, inhabited from the ancient years. There, you can see the ruins of the ancient Greek city Lato which was noted as one of the most powerful Dorian towns in Crete, with two acropoleis, and the old Byzantine Church of Panagia Kera with unique, in technique and importance, Byzantine frescoes (13th and 14th century).
Last but no least, let's talk about the beaches. Lasithi region has a big variety of beaches, many of which are awarded for their crystal waters. The most famous one is Vai, because it is surrounded by an ancient palm tree forrest.

*Special thanks to NIKO Seaside Resort for their great hospitality! Such a beautiful and luxurious place to stay in Agios Nikolaos!

"The Kasta Tomb"

Today, we thought sharing with you some information about the newest recently discovered Greek ancient monument, which from now on can be visited!

The Kasta Tomb (Greek: Τύμβος Καστά), also known as the Amphipolis Tomb, is the largest ancient tumulus (burial mound) ever discovered in Greece, and by comparison dwarfs that of Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great, in Vergina.

It is located in nothern Greece, in the region of Macedonia, near the town of Serres.
The inner tomb was first discovered in 2012 and entered in August 2014.

In the beggining, many thought that this could be the tomb of Alexander the Great! But, unfortunately, this will still remain as a big mystery, because the majority of archaeologists believe that Kasta Tomb is actually the tomb of Hephaestion, a great general and closest friend of Alexander.

The most convenient way to pay a visit to the tomb, is staying in the nearby town of Serres. This beautiful town is not only well known for its food (especially Bougatsa) and nightlife, but also for the local's hospitality.

What is more, you can combine your trip there, with visiting the picturesque Kerkini Lake, and the Rupel Fortress, where the Greeks bravely defended the country from Nazi's on WWII.

10/04/2023

As only a few days are left for the Orthodox Easter (Pascha), which we are celebrating in Greece instead of the Catholic one, we felt like sharing this video, which shows the festivities of the Corfu island ( Kerkyra in greek)!
Corfu is well known for its happenings on Easter days, because they have a very traditional, unique way of celebrating. That's why the island is always packed with people on these days, and if you are willing to visit, you'd better make your bookings some months in advance!
SOME OF THE "BEST PARTS"
-On Holy Saturday (the day before Easter day) ‘Mikri Anastasi’ (1st Resurrection Service) is celebrated as the bells chime, and the bands parade in the town streets. It is customary for locals to drop clay pots from windows and balconies. It’s quite a sight to watch them crash noisily on the streets and pavements below!
-On Good Friday, young girls and ladies decorate Epitaphios (for those who haven't seen one yet, there is a picture below) with flowers in all parishes; the religious processions begin early in the afternoon accompanied by choruses and bands.
Of course, every day of the Holy Week has something interesting and unique. But, besides all the above, if you visit Corfu (and the whole Greece also) in Easter, you will enjoy delicious traditional food, such as kokoretsi, lamb on the spit, red coloured eggs, lots of tsourekia, and you will meet another, more traditional perception of Greece and it's people!

'The Athens of the North'
Last month, we went exploring Scotland.
Our base was the city of Edinburgh (Dùn Èideann in Scottish Gaelic), whose nickname is 'The Athens of the North' indeed, mostly due to the city's 'Restyling' in the 18th century.
Of course, we didn't miss the chance to explore the Scottish Highlands, which is arguably a 'must-do'. Believe it or not, we also met Nessie, the famous monster of Loch Ness (we aren't sure if this was before the Scotch Whisky Experience, or afterwards, hoho).
Speaking of the Scotch Whisky Experience, this could be one of the most interesting parts of your visit in Edinburg. In this place, which is located in Royal Mile, the most famous and busy street in the Old Town, and looks like a fun museum, you can learn about the history of Scotch Whisky, the different ways of its production in every corner of Scotland, and, of course, you' ll get a taste of a wide variety of whiskies (our favorite was the Lowlands Whisky).
If you ask us, we now can easily explain what the term 'Single Malt' means, and we believe that this is a big progress!
Conclusion - word of advice: After visiting the original Athens, Greece, you should plan your visit to the Nothern Athens, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
If you decide to do so, we promise that we' ll take care of everything you'll need.
As we always do!

The Salt Museum of Mesolonghi
Did you know that there is a Salt Museum in Greece?
It is located near the town of Mesolonghi, next to the famous ‘Kleisovas’ lagoon less than 3 hours from Athens.
In this place, one can learn about salt and its impact on local history and economy, as well as Literature, Art, Religion, Tourism and Culture in general. What is more, you can try from a wide variety of salt types and learn about its benefits to our health (when consuming it reasonably, of course), in a modern and well organized building.
Before/after visiting the museum, a stop to Aitoliko, a unique and picturesque village located in an island inside the lagoon is ideal (especially if you enjoy having fresh fish for lunch).
Of course, the town of Mesolonghi is also worth to visit, in order to explore its great history. This place is considered as Sacred Town, because of the site of a dramatic siege during the Greek War of Independence, and of the death of poet Lord Byron.

Ikaria is one of the largest islands of the eastern Aegean Sea . It’s name according to mythology is derived from the greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus .
Rich in historical and cultural heritage, the island is a certified Blu zone area where people live the longest and healthiest lives .
One of the best kept longevity secrets is the unique Ikarian red wine “Pramnios oinos” that we had the opportunity to taste at the Afianes Wines here the owner Mr Nikos Afianes guided us in his family vineyard, talked about the two indigenous grape varieties “Begleri” and “Fokiano” and showed us the ancient recipe of storing the wine in clay jars buried in the earth .
Ikaria island has also an abundance of highly therapeutic radios energized springs and is full of ancient forests, beautiful beaches, rugged mountains . But most important the Ikarians who are open , relaxed and hospitable . Special thanks to Marina Hotel Therma who hosted has on this trip
