Happy faces, happy solo travellers!

"Last year, I had the pleasure of travelling solo on my first small group tour. I joined nine other people and, thanks to our incredible guides, we all bonded well over the two weeks and there was a lovely family vibe throughout. The guides also managed all the logistics and got us to the best places at the perfect time, meaning we covered a huge amount of ground and gained a much better understanding of the local culture. As someone who can get bogged down in the details of holiday planning, it was a joy to have no other responsibilities other than to enjoy myself!"

“...Climbing Mount Smolikas was perhaps the most exciting part of the holiday and experiencing alpine landscape and mountain lakes for the first time. Having walked the Menalon trail in the Peloponnese in June with Nofootprint, this was a real contrast with a very different topography and way of life. Zagori is a real gem and the views from Vikas Gorge are indescribable as are the little charming villages throughout that look like they haven’t changed in 100 years.

The journey was of course made memorable by the nice group of people I found myself with and our mountain guide Yannis, whose knowledge of the mountains, the flowers and fauna, and his commitment to conserving the Greek environment through various initiatives, including clearing old mountain paths, was extremely heartening, especially in an age when the environment in many places is being needlessly destroyed.»

“We had an amazing trip. Each walk had its own character and we thoroughly enjoyed each one... Climbing Mt Zas was a sweaty challenge that we both loved. Going late in the season meant it wasn’t too hot, and there were hardly any other people around. The views from the top were spectacular.

In equal first place was the walk from Chora along the spine of Amorgos. Criss-crossing to each side gave us a different outlook, stunning Aegean Sea colours that contrasted with the barren landscape plus the stark white of churches. Breathtaking.

We also had the privilege of helping carry the monks’ shopping up into the monastery, and seeing a bit more of that piece of human engineering! What a structure! We are not religious but it was a striking and emotionally powerful experience to visit it.

The accommodation in Naxos was superb- a nice room, phenomenal breakfast and the added bonus of indoor pool, sauna, spa and Hammam was a wonderful addition, particularly as the weather was cooling down... The accommodation on Amorgos was also very nice, with a fantastic balcony overlooking the port and the sea!

Christina was very approachable, enthusiastic and we felt very comfortable dealing with her and asking questions! That made our life easier. We also appreciated her dining recommendations and went to Maro’s taverna twice!! Yum!"

The trails in the northern Zagori region of the Pindos mountain range are some of the most thrilling in Greece, not only for avid trekkers and mountaineers, but for every amateur nature and wildlife lover, botanist, birdwatcher or geologist. And pretty much everyone else, too.

In Central Zagori, known for its arched stone bridges and mansions, those trails that were once the paths used by traders and locals with their mules and horses, are now perfect for short and easy hikes.

In the Vikos Gorge on the other hand, hikes along the Voidomatis River are more adventurous, offering dramatic views of the 1000 m. tall rock walls reaching up on both sides, while the mist above the river adds a mysterious atmosphere.

"Our sailing holiday was fabulous...Chris and Lazzarus where good fun and great company, also both are very good at what they do. The yacht was comfortable and clean, we went to some amazing islands and beaches for swimming....Mal even jumped about four metres into the water, encouraged by my yelling no doubt. The other travellers where fun and easy to get along with, so no issues there. I could not fault the sailing or the walks....it was a wonderful holiday, like I knew it would be, highly recommended it to anyone. Have a great Christmas, and stay safe, hugs and kisses."
