Day Two offers options for both easy and challenging routes through Mount Vermio to Naoussa. Hey there, fellow GrCycling riders! Today, I'm taking you on a virtual ride through the stunning landscapes of Athens, a journey that's sure to ignite your imagination! ๐
Picture this: it's January in Athens, and the weather? Absolutely perfect! It's the kind of day that screams "a bike ride," so what do we do? We grab our bikes, of course! Alex and Aris, the souls of this project, who share a passion for suffering decide to just go!
Our mission? To conquer once again the majestic Mt. Parnitha, located in the north of Attica. This isn't just any ride; it's a climb of 1350 meters in elevation. But trust me, every pedal stroke is worth it, although we died in the end. As we ascend, the Athens skyline unfurls below us, offering a breathtaking view of the entire city, stretching all the way to the sea and the nearby islands. It's a sight that makes your heart skip a beat.
But wait, the ride doesn't stop there! We then head towards the serene Marathon Lake, Athens' very own water reservoir. The ride there? Absolutely spectacular. There's something about cycling next to water that soothes the soul.
However, not all was as we remembered. Last year's fires have left their mark on these landscapes, a grey footprint on the lush green canvas we used to know. Riding through the burned forest was a poignant reminder of nature's vulnerability and the impact of human actions. It was a new, somewhat stark experience for us, and a call for greater responsibility towards our environment.
Yet, amidst this, the beauty of Athens shone through. The views remained marvelous, a testament to nature's resilience. It's a gentle reminder that soon, the forest will rejuvenate, offering us all that we need to embrace the natural world around us.
So, to all of you reading this, whether you're a cycling enthusiast or someone who loves a good adventure, Athens is calling! ๐ฃ It's a city of contrasts, where beauty and resilience go hand in hand. And on a bike, you'll experience it like never before.
Only two weeks remain from our signature event in Ermioni and Spetses. Spring is calling and nature is at its best. We have put together an unforgettable journey at one of Greeceโs best cycling spots. Join us and cycle along a spectacular coastline and ride around a stunningly beautiful island.
It is a weekend with two rides, suitable for cyclists of all levels. Whether you are cycling for fun, leisure on an ebike or enjoy the suffering on a racing bike, this is an event for you. Join our group and let us show you the places we think make Greece a must-visit country for cycling.
The ancient spirit of Olympia, also part of our club rides, called and we heeded her call with respect and eagerness! This weekend we at Grcycling had the pleasure to support the race of L' Etape by Tour de France, in a support van as well as manning the stations of the race for any technical support as needed by the participants.
And because all work and no play makes jack a dull boy, we had to join in on the fun and ride the routes of Ancient Olympia ourselves. We were joined on this trip by Guillaume and his fiercely persistent uncle Danny (73yo!!!). We can only hope to have his resilience as we reach his age, as he is an inspiration to us all.

Customer reporting: Luigi is an enthusiastic cyclist from Sardinia that we had the honor to equip with one of our light carbon road bikes, along with an array of bike bags to help him execute his adventurous plans, 8 days of riding conquest in Peloponnese.
He rode in places like Korinth, Nafplio, Leonidio, Monemvasia, Elafonisos, Gytheio and Kardamyli, well known for their beauty and attracting cyclists from all around the world. With a total of about 580km and with a fair share of mountainous ranges, Luigi went above and beyond and was rewarded adequately with both newly gained fitness and scenery. One thing is sure, it will be a full week to remember forever.
Monemvasia! This ancient castle-island was our final destination for this Sunday's ride, and what a ride it was! We started from the idyllic town of Kiparissi and, after climbing a short distance into the mountains, quickly got down to shore for a coffee and snacks in the small port of Gerakas, and carried on. Fully supported by our specialists in an equipped van, riding along the coast until the big rocky island of Monemvasia, we were finally amazed when the rocky island with steep cliffs got in our sight. This is truly a ride to repeat and we can't wait until we do it again!
April 22-23: An incredible cycling weekend right in the heart of spring, that many of us loved. Two stunningly beautiful destinations: Ermioni, a village untouched by the radars of mass tourism, and Spetses, the cosmopolitan gem of the Aegean. Two days full of cycling, suitable for all levels of fitness levels.
On Saturday 22 we will ride along the eastern coast of Argolida, crossing Methana and ending up in Ermioni town. The next day we ride from Ermioni to the small port of Costa and circle the island of Spetses following its picturesque beautiful roads.

Birdwatching with cycling, what a truly amazing idea! Initially, we were unsure of what to expect, but we soon realized that it was an excellent plan. Armed with our bicycles, we ventured into the blossoming natural landscape with the guidance of an expert in the field, Dimitris.
Our experience was truly mind-blowing. We used cycling as a means to reach the fascinating sites of a wetland in the Marathon region. At first, we were all wandering aimlessly, taking in the sounds and sights of the flowers. However, Dimitris suddenly halted the group and pointed out an eagle soaring in the sky. It was then that we realized our visual reflexes were insufficient, and we needed to adapt to dig more into this enchanting experience.
Nature is a masterpiece, with every corner teeming with perfect balance and wonder. Thanks to Dimitris, we discovered an entirely new world and sharpened our reflexes, attention, and knowledge base. It was a fascinating activity, in perfect harmony with the workings of our ecosystems. For all of us who joined that trip, it was a true treasure hunt.

Bruno and his lovely spouse Hilde visited Greece for holidays, as they are both athletes that were looking to combine their sports with some good weather fun. Bruno is a triathlete and Hilde is an ultra-marathon runner that completed the 2022 Spartathlon and wants to improve her record by an hour, a truly inspiring and commendable effort.
They arrived during an ideal sunny period and climbed the Athenian mountains on their bikes and explored the Loutraki - Vouliagmeni route making the most of their bikes, combining it with running training during their stay.
We thank them whole-heartedly for the photos and highlights from their trips that they chose to share with us, wish them success in their future athletic endeavors and hope that we see them again when they visit again for the 2023 race!
Weather blessed us this Sunday with plenty of sun and warmth. We crossed Salamina shore to shore and attacked its hills on E-bikes and road bikes.

Breaking News!!
Spring has arrived, and it's not a joke. Our latest duty required us to map a small hill situated near the coastal road in the Athenian Riviera region of Vouliagmeni. While some may refer to it as Faskomilia hill, we affectionately call it "๐บBEERverly Hills๐บ" - a name that will soon make sense.
We rode along a network of well-maintained gravel roads that led us to an elevation of 50-60 meters above sea level. From this vantage point, we were rewarded with breathtaking views of the entire coastline. As we cycled for a few minutes, we stumbled upon several spots that left us awestruck with their beauty. The lush green grass, the blooming almond trees with their pale pink petals, and the fragrant scents that permeated the air - it was like being surrounded by nature's own perfume.
Initially, our plan was to assess the road connections, but we found ourselves getting caught up in nature's trap, seduced by its stunning colors and aromas. Soon, we will post a Club ride or an E-Bike Tour, aiming to reach the summit just in time for sunset. This is also the story behind the name "BEERverly Hills" - after cycling here and watching the sun go down, all you need is good beer, great friends, and some meze to make an extraordinary day.
