A tour in the archeological sites of the island, a hike in our beautiful mountains, an introduction to the diversity of our flora and fauna by walking in one of the hundreds of paths, a more personal approach of the significance and the symbolism of the Byzantine icons, a personalized walking tour of our Chania, an acquaintance with the cretan cuisine and the products of the cretan earth, whatever you wish we will be more than happy to assist you in finding it. We speak different languages such as English, German, Italian, French, Finnish, Spanish and Swedish. Hello,

We are the licensed tour guides of Greece, and we are protesting against the Ministry of Tourism’s new bill, which is due to be signed into law today.

In Greece, licensed tour guides undergo rigorous training in public guide schools to ensure they provide accurate and engaging information to tourists.

This bill would allow tourists to be guided around some of Greece’s most treasured sites by individuals without a license—in other words, fake guides and unqualified people from anywhere in the world.

We ask that the Ministry of Tourism protect the unique experience for tourists in Greece and take action against illegal tours by unqualified individuals.

We ask that the Ministry of Tourism withdraw this bill.

Can we count on your support? Please sign the petition below

The Ministry of Tourism is recommending to the Parliament for approval a bill which attempts to "modernize" the profession of the tour guide. Among other things, the proposed definition of the tour guide limits his work to closed and enclosed spaces, despite the fact that the history, sights and cul...

The sacrifice of a young girl and of several animals are among the unexpected finds of the ongoing excavation in the ancient Kydonia in Chania on the island of Crete! Some of us, the professional licensed guides, helped sort out the incredible objects. Join us on a walking tour in the old town and let us show you the secrets of our past and present!

The area where the Mycenaean-era human sacrifice took place was likely a roofed hall, not an open space, according to the results.

Η ‘ωραία αλεξανδρινή’! ❤️

Να ήταν άραγε εξίσου όμορφη η Σωσίμα με την Αλεξανδρινή μας;

The ‘beautiful Alexandrian lady’! ❤️

📷 Terracotta female figurine, end of 4th - early 3rd c. BC. AMCh, inv. no. Π 6071

🔎 From the museum’s Collection, our ´beautiful Alexandrian lady´, was found in one of the burial chambers of an underground rock-cut funerary monument in the city of Chania. The bright blue color preserved in the wreath and the gold in the necklace, illuminate the graceful and serene facial features. The figurine, made of fine white clay, was produced by a workshop in Alexandria.
Behind, though, this exclusively crafted object lies an everyday, human story. It was one of the grave offerings that accompanied Sosima, who had died shortly after giving birth, as attested by the inscription at the entrance of her burial chamber.

Would Sosima have been as beautiful as our Alexandrian lady?

We would like to thank very much the archaeologist Dr. Elpida Hadjidaki for the excellent tour she gave us, the professional tourist guides, around the ongoing excavation of Phalasarna. It gave us a new perspective of this very important harbor on the west coast of Crete dated from the Hellenistic period, which was destroyed by the big earthquake of 365 A.D. It was a reviling experience to see and walk along the pier of the ancient port, which is located nowadays 6,6 meters above sea level. It would be a pleasure to show our guests the very well-built towers, which ones protected the port facilities, the remains of the town and the breathtaking landscape of Phalasarna.

📍Falasarna beach 🏖️ Crete island 🏝️..
📷: ..
Falasarna (sometimes written as Phalasarna) is located on the West coast of Crete and, similarly to Elafonisi is popular with day trippers because of its stunning beaches and clear turquoise blue sea.

It consists of several sandy beaches of various length, all facing the West (which makes it a wonderful place to watch the sunset from). The sea is generally very clean and with lovely colours because of the sandy bottom.

If you are interested in archaeology you can also visit the remains of a fortified Hellenistic harbour. Because of a sudden uplift of the West of Crete 1500 years ago the harbour is now located inland.

Because there is a good area of flat fertile land running along the coast, a lot of greenhouses have been erected in the last 20 years or so and Falasarna, especially seen from above as you drive down the hill, is not as beautiful as it once was. But when you are on the beach you won't notice them anymore.

The impressive Cave of Elephants in Chania!

It was discovered in 1999 by a diver-fisherman and it is half submerged in the sea.It was named after the finds (bones of elephants but also those of deers).
The bones belong to a yet unknown species which was named "elephas chaniensis" (after the town of Chania) and they are 50.000/60.000 years old.

Crete is full of surprises!

"The biggest Greek island has a small country’s worth of things to see and do, including its very own cuisine, music and culture. The island of Zeus and Zorba, ancient even to the ancient Greeks, Crete is the cradle of myth and of Europe’s very first literate civilisation, the Minoan, whose joyous springtime art is reason alone to visit. One sandy beach after another lines the north coast, along with some of Crete’s largest cities and resorts. But even there you’re never far from a mountain road leading into another world of breathtaking landscapes, lonesome archaeological sites, frescoed Byzantine chapels and timeless villages."

Today is Holy Thursday for Greek Orthodox Christians. And on this day, according to tradition, we dye the eggs red.

The origin of the custom is unclear, but the most popular story linked with the tradition is this:
Maria Magdalene, the follower of Jesus, was the first to see the empty tomb after His resurrection. She went to the Roman emperor to inform him. The emperor said that this was impossible and that he would only believe her claims if the eggs in the basket next to him turned red instantly... which they miraculously did!

In the past, the dying of the eggs was done with natural dyes from different plants. Like onions, beetroots, poppies, almond tree leaves and straw. Nowadays, though, we use food colouring.

The ritual of the cracking of the eggs -- when people tap each other’s egg -- takes place on Easter Sunday. This custom symbolises the 'cracking' of Christ's tomb and the bonds of death and His resurrection.
While cracking the egg, one person says "Christos Anesti" (Christ has risen), and the other replies "Alithos Anesti" (truly He has risen). Greek Orthodox Christians also use these words to greet each other, during the 40 days after the resurrection.

It is common belief that dyed Easter eggs can stay edible for 40 days without being refrigerated. If, however, a priest blesses the eggs on Easter Sunday, they are said to last a whole year without turning bad!
