๐Elounda ๐
Elounda occupies an important place in the history of Crete and actively participated in the Minoan period as the city-state of Olounda, with satisfactory development and production especially in the primary sector. Today, Elounda is famous as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, as it often hosts domestic and foreign celebrities. The now known Elounda, in ancient times was called Olus and was known as a city-state. Most of it is submerged in the sea since the bay of Mirabello, as well as the surrounding area, was washed away by a strong earthquake. The ruins of the ancient city are visible when diving in the "Canal" area. Finally, north of the entrance to the "Mirabello" bay is the island of Spinalonga where from 1903 to 1957 the lepers of Crete lived in isolation.
