It is possible to vacation in Crete all year round, since most of the island is located in the Mediterranean climate zone, so the winter is quite warm.

The main tourist season in Crete is from April to October. During the high season, hotel and airfare prices are the most expensive, so many vacationers choose to vacation in the off-season.

From November to March, you can enjoy the beauty of the island without crowds of tourists, although some tourist places are closed. The island is home to many historical monuments from the time of the Minoan civilization to the era of Roman and Venetian rule.

What determines the cost of an excursion in Crete?🇬🇷
Prices for excursions on the island vary greatly, and there are many reasons for this:

✨Transport
For land excursions this is a sightseeing bus (cheaper) and a minibus (more expensive)

✨Distance
Crete is a fairly large island, so the price of excursions depends on the distance, that is, from the place where you are staying to your desired destination.

✨Number of people
Group excursions are the cheapest, and there are also excursions for about 10 people. They are a little more expensive, but they have their advantages, since you can reserve enough freedom for yourself when choosing an excursion program.

✨Entrance tickets
When comparing prices, it is also important to take into account that the cost of some excursions in Crete already includes entrance tickets, while in other cases they will have to be paid separately.

✨Guide
If you choose mini or individual excursions, then you have the opportunity to take a tour with or without a guide.

Affordable vacation for everyone

Crete is quite diverse, every vacationer will find something of his own on it. The island is ideal for both family and quiet holidays, but also for young people who love nightlife.

The main tourist season in Crete is from April to October, although you can relax in big cities all year round. At the height of the season, prices for hotels and air tickets are the most expensive, so not a few vacationers choose to rest in the off-season.

Christmas traditions of Crete🎄
In Greece, Christmas is celebrated according to the Gregorian calendar on December 25th. Christmas is celebrated here more than New Year. The main festive table is done at Christmas, mainly with family and relatives.

From the end of November, they begin to decorate the streets with glowing garlands and panels, and at the beginning of December, Christmas trees and fairs open in the central squares of the districts.
Local residents try to decorate their house, balcony and yard in a special way. Impressive decorations and countless lights create a magnificent spectacle.

From the beginning of December, the aroma of various Christmas baked goods begins to fly in the air. Most housewives try to make their own Christmas cookies Melomakarona and Kurabiedes, as well as Diples. Previously, melomakarona was prepared specifically for Christmas, and kurabiedes - exclusively for the New Year.

Closer to Christmas, some housewives bake butter bread - Christopsomo (from the Greek Χριστός - Christ, ψωμί - bread). While cooking, the hostess prays, reading the troparion to the Nativity of Christ.

For the Christmas table, they mainly prepare stuffed turkey or suckling pig. Holiday dishes often depend on the region of Greece. The turkey is mainly stuffed with chestnuts, rice, prunes and minced meat.

On Christmas Eve before Christmas, children go around to neighbors, friends, relatives and sing them the traditional Christmas song - “Καλήνεσπέραν” to get sweets or money.

Even though it is November, we continue to open and show the sights of Crete. The other day we visited the monastery of Kera Kardiotissa. It is located on the road to Lasithi.

The monastery is small, only a few buildings. The main building on the territory of the monastery is the church, in which there is a copy of the icon of the Virgin Mary Cardiotissa. This icon is considered miraculous.

There is a legend associated with the icon, according to which it was kidnapped by the Turks several times, but each time the icon was returned to the monastery from where it was stolen. The last time the Turks chained the stolen icon to a pillar with an iron chain. But the icon returned to the monastery again, along with the pillar and chain. After this, the chains that are in the church are also considered miraculous, and the pillar itself is located near the entrance to the church.

The monastery is active, but the number of nuns is decreasing. In 2001, 45 people lived here, but now only a few people remain.

Today, October 27th is National Flag Day of Greece!

The first flag of Greece - a white cross on a blue background - was designed, woven, blessed and raised in 1807 at the monastery of Evangelistrias on the island of Skiathos.

In 1978, based on the law of 12/21/1978, retaining the white cross on a blue background, 9 alternating blue and white horizontal stripes from the flag of the Greek naval forces were added to the National Flag of Greece.

“Summer” in Crete continues... November is a week away, so the weather will change dramatically. At the beginning of the month it is almost always warm, there is practically no rain. The average day and night temperatures during November are 20°C and 14°C, respectively.

The sea water is still suitable for swimming around 20°C.
Most come in the fall for sightseeing holidays. There are no gifts and the temperature is very comfortable for long walks.

In November, locals in Heraklion celebrate the feast of the city’s patron saint, St. Minasa. Colorful events take place on this day.

Wonderful places 🙏
Crete attracts thousands of tourists every year. Most people come to the island to enjoy the sun, sea, try traditional dishes and touch history, but few people know that Crete is also popular among believers. There are hundreds of temples and monasteries here, so pilgrimage destinations are gaining more and more popularity every year.

Christianity in Crete was preached back in the 1st century by the Apostle Paul and his disciple Titus, who later became the first bishop of the island.

Today the island is one of the main centers of Orthodoxy in Europe. Most popular places:

✨Panagia Paliani Monastery
The convent of Panagia Paliani is considered one of the oldest in Crete. A “miraculous” tree grows here. Its bark, leaves and twigs are distributed to pilgrims, many of whom come for healing from various ailments.

✨Toplu Monastery
This is an unusual monastery: from the outside it resembles a fortress with high walls. Here is the icon “Wonderful are your works, O Lord,” made by Ioann Cornarou. She is revered as miraculous.

✨Preveli Monastery
The monastery consists of two parts: Kato (lower) Preveli, built in the 10th century, and Pano (upper) Preveli. Believers come to Preveli to venerate the Holy miraculous Cross. It stores particles of the original Christ of the Lord and is able to heal from eye diseases.

✨Monastery of Our Lady of the Heart or Kera Cardiotissa
It is located in the mountains, at the entrance to the Lassithi Plateau. It gained its fame thanks to the miraculous icon of the Mother of God. There is a legend associated with it, which says that it was kidnapped by the Turks several times, but each time the icon was returned to the monastery from where it was stolen. The last time the Turks chained the stolen icon to a pillar with an iron chain, but the icon returned to the monastery again, along with the pillar and chain. Now the chain and pillar are kept here and are considered miraculous too.

These are not all “miraculous” monasteries. For more information, contact us and we will organize your holiday in Crete.

The velvet season is now in full swing in Crete. It is believed that now is the ideal time to explore the island. It's hot during the day, but a little cool in the morning and evening. The water in the sea still continues to retain the warmth of previous months, so vacationers in September and early October will be able to enjoy a beach holiday to their fullest.

Interestingly, the climate of Crete varies slightly in different parts of it.

In September and October there are no longer crowds of vacationers, so you can enjoy a quiet and relaxing holiday.

Today we want to give you a couple of tips that will make your driving around the island safer.

Winding roads and viewpoints overlooking the sea and mountains make your exploration of the island an unforgettable experience.

Our tips for safe driving:

-Always be vigilant and never assume that other drivers will strictly adhere to the rules.

-Be careful with pedestrians, especially in populated areas.

-On Crete, only one section of the road allows a speed limit above 90 kilometers per hour.

-Be careful! Sometimes you can see goats and sheep on the mountain roads. The shepherds, of course, remove the animals, but sometimes you need to wait a little.

-Careful driving is required on all country roads. They often have curves and require drivers to obey speed limits and drive carefully.

-Do not put off filling the tank until the last minute, as it is not always possible to find a gas station.

-Often cars behind may “flashing” their headlights, which means they want to overtake you.

Have a nice and safe trip to Crete!
