✨Good morning (Καλημέρα - kalimera) in Greece is usually said until two o'clock in the afternoon
✨Many families sit down to dinner around nine in the evening in the summer, so you can safely call your friends, of course, preferably before 22.00.

Christmas traditions of Crete🎄
In Greece, Christmas is celebrated according to the Gregorian calendar on December 25th. Christmas is celebrated here more than New Year. The main festive table is done at Christmas, mainly with family and relatives.

From the end of November, they begin to decorate the streets with glowing garlands and panels, and at the beginning of December, Christmas trees and fairs open in the central squares of the districts.
Local residents try to decorate their house, balcony and yard in a special way. Impressive decorations and countless lights create a magnificent spectacle.

From the beginning of December, the aroma of various Christmas baked goods begins to fly in the air. Most housewives try to make their own Christmas cookies Melomakarona and Kurabiedes, as well as Diples. Previously, melomakarona was prepared specifically for Christmas, and kurabiedes - exclusively for the New Year.

Closer to Christmas, some housewives bake butter bread - Christopsomo (from the Greek Χριστός - Christ, ψωμί - bread). While cooking, the hostess prays, reading the troparion to the Nativity of Christ.

Even though it is November, we continue to open and show the sights of Crete. The other day we visited the monastery of Kera Kardiotissa. It is located on the road to Lasithi.

The monastery is small, only a few buildings. The main building on the territory of the monastery is the church, in which there is a copy of the icon of the Virgin Mary Cardiotissa. This icon is considered miraculous.

There is a legend associated with the icon, according to which it was kidnapped by the Turks several times, but each time the icon was returned to the monastery from where it was stolen. The last time the Turks chained the stolen icon to a pillar with an iron chain. But the icon returned to the monastery again, along with the pillar and chain. After this, the chains that are in the church are also considered miraculous, and the pillar itself is located near the entrance to the church.

The monastery is active, but the number of nuns is decreasing. In 2001, 45 people lived here, but now only a few people remain.

Today, October 27th is National Flag Day of Greece!

The first flag of Greece - a white cross on a blue background - was designed, woven, blessed and raised in 1807 at the monastery of Evangelistrias on the island of Skiathos.

In 1978, based on the law of 12/21/1978, retaining the white cross on a blue background, 9 alternating blue and white horizontal stripes from the flag of the Greek naval forces were added to the National Flag of Greece.

“Summer” in Crete continues... November is a week away, so the weather will change dramatically. At the beginning of the month it is almost always warm, there is practically no rain. The average day and night temperatures during November are 20°C and 14°C, respectively.

The sea water is still suitable for swimming around 20°C.

✨Toplu Monastery
This is an unusual monastery: from the outside it resembles a fortress with high walls. Here is the icon “Wonderful are your works, O Lord,” made by Ioann Cornarou. She is revered as miraculous.

✨Preveli Monastery
The monastery consists of two parts: Kato (lower) Preveli, built in the 10th century, and Pano (upper) Preveli. Believers come to Preveli to venerate the Holy miraculous Cross. It stores particles of the original Christ of the Lord and is able to heal from eye diseases.

✨Monastery of Our Lady of the Heart or Kera Cardiotissa
It is located in the mountains, at the entrance to the Lassithi Plateau. It gained its fame thanks to the miraculous icon of the Mother of God. There is a legend associated with it, which says that it was kidnapped by the Turks several times, but each time the icon was returned to the monastery from where it was stolen. -Always be vigilant and never assume that other drivers will strictly adhere to the rules.

-Be careful with pedestrians, especially in populated areas.

-On Crete, only one section of the road allows a speed limit above 90 kilometers per hour.

-Be careful! Sometimes you can see goats and sheep on the mountain roads. The shepherds, of course, remove the animals, but sometimes you need to wait a little.

-Careful driving is required on all country roads. They often have curves and require drivers to obey speed limits and drive carefully.

-Do not put off filling the tank until the last minute, as it is not always possible to find a gas station.

Наконец-то дождались, в Греции с 1 мая отменяется предъявление сертификата о вакцинации или справки о перенесённой болезни. Эта мера будет действовать до 1 сентября. Новые решения по поводу продления мер будут приниматься в сентябре, как сказал министр здравоохранения.

Маски на открытом воздухе носить не обязательно. Правда в закрытых помещениях маска обязательна до 31 мая.

С 1 мая прилетающим в Грецию не нужно перед поездкой сдавать ПЦР- или антиген-тест и проходить после прилета экспресс-тест в аэропорту. Это относится как к привитым, так и к невакцинированным гражданам.

На период летнего сезона снимаются ограничения по заполняемости общественных мест.

Страстная неделя 🇬🇷
Начиная со Святого Понедельника и заканчивая Святой Средой люди стараются сделать все свои домашние дела, а также пекут пасхальное печенье и по возможности, посещают богослужения.

Раньше в Греции почти все соблюдали Великий Пост, но с годами всё меньше и меньше людей соблюдают пост . Правда, есть местные, которые стараются поститься на Страстной неделе, некоторые даже едят только хлеб и воду.

На этой неделе крестные родители дарят своим крестникам подарки и конечно же дарят праздничную свечу - Ламбада( большая декорированная свеча).С этой свечкой дети идут с родителями в церковь на Паску и берут Благодатный огонь.

В четверг местные хозяйки красят яйца и пекут Паскальную выпечку.Главная выпечка - цуреки. Это сдобный плетеный хлеб, напоминает «косичку». Сверху его посыпают миндалем и ставят в середину красное яйцо.

Пиратский остров - Грамвуса 🤔
В конце XVI века венецианцы на острове Грамвуса построили крепость. Она была построена в форме треугольника. Крепость была защищена высокими стенами - одна стена со стороны моря и две другие со стороны суши. Находится на высоте 130 м над уровнем моря.

В 1825 году, 300 греков, которые боролись за освобождение Крита, смогли захватить эту крепость и вернуть ее. После этого, на территории крепости была построена церковь Богородицы Клефтрины (от слова «клефт» – вор, вооруженный повстанец) и школа.

🇬🇧Pirate Island - Gramvousa 🤔 At the end of the 16th century, the Venetians built a fortress on the island of Gramvousa. It was built in the shape of a triangle. The fortress was protected by high walls - one wall from the sea side and two others from the land side. It is located at an altitude of 130 m above sea level.

In 1825, 300 Greeks who fought for the liberation of Crete were able to capture this fortress and take it back. After that, the church of the Virgin Kleftrina (from the word "kleft" - a thief, an armed rebel) and a school were built on the territory of the fortress. Due to lack of funds, local residents began to engage in piracy, attacking Turkish, Egyptian and European ships.

The famous pirate Barbarossa is said to have visited the island.

The fortress offers a stunning view of Balos Bay and the plateau with the remains of the fortress walls.

Двойной праздник в 🇬🇷
25 марта в Греции отмечают сразу два праздника - день Независимости Греции и Благовещение(греч. Эвангелисмос). Эти два праздника тесно связаны между собой. Греки верующие, поэтому и дата восстания была выбрана не случайно.

В 1821-м году именно 25-го марта митрополит греческого города Патры — Герман — благословил знамя греческого национального восстания против османского ига. Кровопролитная борьба за свободу длилась 11 лет, прежде чем Константинопольский мирный договор утвердил Грецию, как независимое государство.

День Независимости Греции является одним из важнейших государственных праздников. Многие местные вывешивают на балконах флаги 🇬🇷, их перед датой продают во многих магазинах, а также можно купить прям на улице у спонтанных торговцев. Во всех городах Греции проходят школьные парады и возложение венков к мемориалам. В Афинах перед парламентом проходит большой военный парад.

Верующие греки отмечают 25 марта Благовещение. По традиции в этот день принято готовить соленую треску(греч. бакальярос) не смотря на то, что идёт пост, есть небольшое послабление. Едят треску все, от мала до велика, но мало кто знает, почему!

Ответ прост: Не всем повезло жить возле моря, поэтому рыбу везли из далека. Треска считается, одной из лучших рыб Средиземноморья для транспортировки, а также выдерживает длительное хранение вне холодильника, благодаря соли в которую её помещают, поэтому издавна она стала незаменимым блюдом в этот праздничный день.

Если вы захотите пообедать треской в какой-нибудь таверне в этот день, то желательно закрыть столик заранее.

Необычные факты о Великом Посте в 🇬🇷
Греция - единственная страна, в которой православие закреплено в Конституции как государственная религия. Но есть некоторые отличия от православных церквей в других странах:

✨Богослужение у греков длится не долго и его отличает простота.

✨Перед Великим постом устраивают карнавалы.

✨В первый понедельник первой седмицы - здесь настоящий праздник Чистый Понедельник. В Греции в этот день выходной. По традиции местные запускают бумажных змеев, отправляются всей семьей на природу,а также едят постную лепешку Лагана с морепродуктами.

✨С начала поста и до Пасхи местные при встрече друг другу желают "Кали саракости"(пер. "Хорошего вам поста")

✨Во время Великого поста некоторые монастыри закрыты для паломников, монахи строго постятся и уединенно молятся.

✨Рыбу во время поста есть нельзя, но есть один день который является исключением - праздник Благовещения Богородицы, который совпадает с национальным праздником Греции, днем Независимости.

✨Каждую пятницу поётся Акафист Божией Матери. Объясняется это тем, что люди после трудовой недели, не отягощенные предстоящим рабочим днем, могут посвятит свое время перед выходными посещению богослужения с торжественным исполнением гимна Божией Матери.

✨Во время поста есть дни, когда можно кушать масло и морепродукты. Например, кальмары, осьминоги, креветки, каракатицы, считаются морскими растениями, потому что у них нет крови. По афонскому уставу, их можно есть и в пост.
