This is how trail running in Crete looks like! A breathtaking landscape, a great experience, a race to remember! Even it was a hard one (Crocodile indeed bited us...), the amazing hospitality of Παλαιόχωρα TRT was the best reward. We do not know how to thank you enough guys - but we are totally sure that we will return to beloved Παλαιοχώρα Χανίων very soon... All the best!

Zaros Trail Races - Ορεινοί Αγώνες Ζαρού, winter edition... They say it will be hard. They say it will be difficult. They say “you will get sick” (greek mother syndrome!!!), “you will get hurt”, “you will freeze”, and other optimistic forecasting… Ok, they may have a point. But, on the other hand, in Go Running Tours Crete, we cannot imagine a better way to return to an amazing place, amongst amazing people! It is the ideal way to start our running year, and return back to the streets after a period of vacation. You know something? We say it will be great! Stay tuned!

Running with Paul from Silverstone our Minoan Legends Trail Tour was until last moment in danger due to a Mediterranean storm that caused huge floods in Greece. Finally, cretan weather (with british colours) won and our guest after two ultra marathons in one year, he run our hardest route from Knossos Palace to the top of Giouchtas.
Paul proved a strong runner and a proud representative of his running club. Thank you Paul for running with us and wish the best to you and your family!!

Last Sunday we had our first Honeymoon Run. Two crazy honeymooners transformed our Minoan Legends Trail Run into a totally different experience. We wish the best for you guys and hope you will enjoy plenty of running miles together !!!!

When our friends learned that we were leaving Heraklion in the middle of the night (~3.30 am) in order to drive almost 180 km (and run 18 more...) to get to Balos Beach, they thought that we are crazy! Ok, they are not absolutely wrong - but even so, this astonishing natural monument totally compensates the try! Phil, Nikos and Alex were an amazing company and made it a lot easier and a lot funnier! Talking about several things (such as Biology and literature, the importance of olive in Mediterranean culture, traditional Cretan cuisine, long distance running of shepherds on Cretan mountains or daily training in a large city) and enjoying the impacting landscape, the almost 2 hour run passed much faster than expected! Swimming in the turquoise waters of Balos was just refreshing, and the traditional breakfast that followed (with paximadia, tomatoes, graviera cheese, honey, olives and grapes) by the seaside helped as recharge our batteries. Guys, you were just great – thanks a lot!
ps1: running with your kids is a dream of every runner – seeing Phil enjoying the run with his sons was a touchy moment for us. Maybe one day we will be able to do the same…
ps2: we would recommend to be an inner regulation for GRT that will not allow triathletes in our tours – it is very hard for a common city manager catch them up! And very hard for his self esteem too!

Running with our guests is always a pleasure! Scott proved to be an amazing company (and a very strong runner, too!), and running the city over the Walls was just great. The thing is that running with a friend can totally transform a rout, even though you have done it numerous times before. Scott thanks for the great time! Go Running Tours Crete, on the wall
In Go Running Tours Crete, we love comparting to races for many different reasons – one of the most important among them is that they provide us an ideal excuse (no that we need one…) to visit some really amazing places. On 12th of August, we will be at Οροπέδιο Λασιθίου Lasithi Plateau, to run the "25th Dikteos Dromos" (24km, road). It is one of the oldest races in Greece and one of our very favorite. As it is a really demanding one (~880 m above sea level, and August in Crete can be really hot...), it works as an ideal test for the forthcoming Athens Classic Marathon – but this is only its athletic aspect, and we are looking forward to visit Lasithi for many other reasons as well. Lasithi Plato has not changed through last decades as other parts of the island did (and regard it as a compliment!), and even today the characteristic windmills of the area conform an amazing spectacle for the visitor. The natural landscape is breathtaking (it is not a coincidence that Zeus, father of the Gods lived there as a child…), as well as the beautiful villages through which we will run. The hospitality of the locals is something to remember (we do not have enough words to thank people of cultural club "Xenios Zeus" for their kindness...), and despite the exhaust you feel after such a race, the fiesta that follows it, is the best closure of an intense day. If by any chance you will be at Crete these days, do not miss it. See you there!

We do not know what do you think about reading, but in GRT Crete, we can admit it - we are definitely book addicts! As our beloved Haruki Murakami very well described it in his great book "What am I talking about when I talk about running", reading and running share much more similarities than you can imagine - and we do enjoy them both!
Some days before, we have received the long-awaited "North" by Scott Jurek and Jenny Jurek , and the experience was just amazing. Scott once again (after the fantastic "Eat and Run") proves himself a great story teller (among other ...), and we feel very lucky to red it. It is not only about running, as well as it is not only a great adventure. In fact, it is a very emotional self-exposing confession, with a profound suggestion - no matter what kind of life you do live, live it in a passionate way. And, what is more important - find your own private North!
Some thoughts about a new Go Running Tours destination?? one of the longest gorges in Europe .... Stay tuned ....

You cannot tell them at first sight. They absolutely look like common people.
Some are skinny, while some others are well shaped.
Some of them are youngsters, while others are less young.
Some of them are professional athletes, while others are professional students, or teachers, or doctors, or accounters, or booksellers, or fishermen, or… or… or……
Some of them are very social persons, while others are very shy.
Some of them go to races, while others prefer to run alone.
Some of them run to the streets, and other on tracks, and other on mountains.
They sometimes can be eccentric, but for sure, they are nice guys (well, most of them…)!
The list can go like this forever. They share many many completely different characteristics, but for sure, they have one thing in common – they are passionate about life! They just love running, and today, the 6th of June, is dedicated to them... Global Running Day. To all runners!
PS. If you are not a runner, and even if the idea of running seems to be outrageous, do whenever you wish this little experiment - put your shoes on, and dare to go outside for a run. The outcomes may surprise you…

Psiloritis (or Ida) mountain is the highest mountain of Crete, and one of the most characteristic landmarks of the island. Aknowledged as the birth place of Zeus, father of the Gods, Psiloritis plays a crucial part for Greek mythology, as it is strongly connected with ancient rituals lost within the centuries. Moreover, Psiloritis affected and conformed local history and civilization, and even today, the network of villages that are spread around its massive bulk share a rather specific culture,regarding music, dance, stockraising, cooking or textile making. What's more, Psiloritis' wild landscape provided shelter for rebels and worriors through centuries, and today is the homeplace for an amazing flora and fauna.
The forthcoming Sunday, runners from all Greece (as well as visitors from abroad) will confront this beautiful yet fierce mountain, comparting to 9th Psiloritis Race. We ve been there the year before for the 8th volume of the race, and we can assure you that it will be an experience to remember. It is one of the best races we run ever, so if you have the chance, do not miss it - you will remember us!

It's a pitty that (even at our slow pace...) you can't take your eyes off the pathway to enjoy the magnificent landscape !

The thing is that, as soon as you want to try something new, you should try it before the main event in order to prevent the things that may go wrong! That was the case with our action camera at 2nd Zaros Trail Races - Ορεινοί Αγώνες Ζαρού . The battery died earlier than expected, its softwear is a bit complicated for processing the video (ok, we have to improve our skills in this digital world...), but, even so, we managed to have something small to show to our friends... Enjoy!
