Monastiraki village is one of the most traditional villages of Lasithi Prefecture with stone-built houses, absolutely adapted by the environment, with amazing view of Mirambello gulf, the village of “Pachia Ammos” and Ierapetra’s plain. "MONASTIRAKI VILLAGE" guest house is constituted by three stone-built villas, which were restored and completed at the same period with the rest reformation of the
village. Houses had been granted to the family of “Nikos Kioulmetis”, the householder’s grandfather, at the period of the populations exchange, when they came from the Minor Asia. The restoration began due to the promise of the grandfather, that some day these villas will be full of life, like the first years that they came as refugees from “Forgotten Countries” (that’s how Greek people use to call Minor Asia). That is the reason of the houses names (SMYRNI, AIVALI, MAKRI). They remind precisely those “Forgotten countries” that will never be forgotten in the soul of all Greek people. The objective was to create residences that will maintain, as much as possible, more elements of traditional Cretan architecture, based on wood, stone and steel, while simultaneously they maintain high aesthetics and functionalism. The visitor has the sense of staying in a shelter of relaxation with all the comforts of a modern residence, as they express through the traditional Cretan furnitures, “ontades”, as we use to call short bedrooms, wooden plate-racks, the "lanterns" that maintain the foods, “lichnous” as we call a traditional source of lighting operating with oil, builded gutters and chimneys made from earthenware jars. The space is hospitable all year long and the only thing that can interrupt visitor’s absolute calm, is the singing of birds. Monastiraki village combines in a unique way:
• History with myths
• Sea with mountain
• Wild nature with peace
• Holidays with traditional way of living
