Last week I checked the trail between Mylopotamos and Livadi. It is a 24 km walk, part of our Kythira Walking Tour.
Along the route: Rizes, Kalokairines, Myrtidiotissa Monastery, Agios Kosmas Monastery, Drymonas, Kalisperianika and Milapidea.
The weather conditions were perfect for different photos (sunshine, mist, rain, low clouds, wind).
Enjoy my photo selection of this beautiful walk. Enjoy walking in Kythira!!

And again we were very lucky today having no rain during our Winter Sunday Walk...
We did a relaxed walk through the villages around Aroniadika: Tzouanianika, Kastrisianika, Friligkianika and Aloizianika.
6 - 7 km, full with history, old footpaths, ruins, beautifully restored houses and a lovely after walk drink at Grygorakis Kafeneion in Aroniadika.
Join us next Sunday for another enjoyable walk!!

Today I checked trek 5 of our Kythira Walking Tour: the 9 km walk around Mylopotamos.
Along the trail: Neraida waterfall, the watermill valley, Agia Marina, Kato Chora and Piso Pigadi.
Thanks to the rain during the last weeks, water is streaming in the upper part of the watermill valley (actually already more water than in previous winter...). Down stream, the riverbed is still dry, just like the waterfall.
Hopefully more rain this winter will give the valley it's original look with small lakes, waterfalls and the relaxing sound of rippling water.
Although it is only a 9 km walk, it took me more than 4.5 hours. You can't be in a hurry in this area with it's wonderful nature and interesting history. It is just too beautiful.
Enjoy my photo selection, enjoy your walks in Kythira!!

Checking the trail between Mitata and Mylopotamos today...
It is a 22.5 km/ 6 hour walk, part of our Kythira Walking Tour.
It was a grey and rainy day but nevertheless it was wonderful. Enjoying my visit to the Black Cave and several churches around Kypriotianika, my lunch with stunning views of the west coast and the Ionian sea, rock climbing down to Kalami Bay and seeing several kinds of mushrooms along the trail.
Enjoy watching the photos, enjoy walking all over Kythira!!

It was a great joy to hear and to see water running in Mylopotamos' watermill valley... This all happened this afternoon during our Winter Sunday Walk.
First we walked to Piso Pigadi and Kato Chora for some history and culture lessons. Via Agia Marina we continued along the trail to the watermill valley. Here we crossed the rippling brook before climbing uphill to Agios Ioannis Church.
From there we walked through a beautiful green landscape back to Mylopotamos for our after walk drink on the square.
Another lovely dry Winter Sunday Walk!! See you next Sunday!!

Today I checked Kythira Walking Tour, trek 3: from Potamos to Mitata, 20 km.
Along the route: Melitianika, Trifyllianika, Paleochora, Zaglanikianika, Osios Theodoros Monastery, Pitsinades, Aroniadika, Tzoanianika, Kastrisianika and Ammoutses.
This walk connects nature with cultivated fields; history with daily life; religion with pirate invasion; villages with empty landscapes.
It was exciting to see and hear water streaming in one of the gorges between Trifyllianika and Paleochora. The last two years, due to lack of rain, this riverbed was dry almost the whole year.
Enjoy the photo's, enjoy walking all over Kythira!!

A lovely Winter Sunday Walk today from Kapsali to Apokleistra Mill, Sgouritsi Bay and Saint John on the Cliff.
We were lucky having only a bit of rain at the end of the walk. We were more than lucky with all those spectacular views of clouds, sun, waves, colours, trees, cliffs and much more.
Many thanks to Chrysopsaro in Kapsali for the sweet treat after the walk, yummie yummie!!
See you next Sunday!!

Today, I checked our Kythira Walking Tour trek from Platia Ammos to Potamos.

Today I started checking our trekking routes for season 2025, with the 19.5 km walk from Agia Pelagia to Platia Ammos (Kythira Walking Tour).
A very divers walk with stunning views, springs, churches, villages and hamlets, a beach, caves and a lighthouse...
Enjoy the photos!!

Another beautiful Winter Sunday Walk today.
This bright sunny, windy and chilly Sunday afternoon we did a 8.5 km walk from Agios Nikolaos Shrine to Ammoutsi Bay.
A walk with many elements: a bit of adventure, a great atmosphere, a welcome break at Ammoutsi Bay and a lovely after-walk party at Nikoloas Kafeneion.
Many thanks to all the participants and for the catering at the kafeneion!! It was just perfect!!

Today's Winter Sunday Walk around Dourianika was a very special one: for the first time we walked the trail to Agios Giorgos Church, along the path that we recently cleared during our Trail Maintenance Walk.
It is a short circular walk (5 km), but one with gorges, caves, a bridge, a cypress tree forest, ruins and stunning views of the Ionian Sea and Cape Tenaros (Mani). And of course our visit of the beautiful 13th century Agios Giorgos Church.
Many thanks to all of you for joining and a huge thank you to the people who organized and catered the lovely after walk party!!
Happy birthday to you Manthi!! Hieperdepiep Hoera!!

A very enjoyable Winter Sunday Walk: today's sunny 8 km walk from Livadi to Strapodi and Kefala.
Along the trail, we visited the beautiful Panagia Konteletou Church (many thanks to Giorgos Lourantos for his explanation about the church history), the Strapodi Spring and the Agios Minas Church at Kefala.
Smiling faces everywhere, walking makes you happy!!

Yes, we did it. Today we finished clearing the last part of the old path between Dourianika and Agios Giorgos Church at Akrotiri (west of Dourianika).
A huge bravo to all the volunteers and to Fotis and Petros for their great work!! Super!!
This path will become part of the 2025-edition of walking guide 'Kythira on foot'. And we will program this walk at one of our Winter Sunday Walks. So, stay tuned!!
And once again many thanks to Chrysafitis Bakery Potamos for today's lovely lunch.

All the way from Canada, David is visiting Kythira for our Olive Picking Weeks. However, due to lack of olives this year, he first helped us two days with the trail maintenance.
Today, he finally started picking olives in a field near Potamos, together with Maria and Alekos. Keep up the good work!!
Being active on Kythira, spending your best holiday ever.

With a smaller team we continue making the old path between Dourianika and Agios Giorgos Church accessible.
Today we did a very difficult part, but we are getting there. The church is in sight, sort of just around the corner...
We will need another two or three days in order to finalize it and a new wonderful trail on Kythira is born...

Our season's first Winter Sunday Walk today: from Potamos to Skoteini, Xestratigos at Asomato, Vythoulas, Potamos.
A pleasant 8 km walk with a great bunch of people. Nearly 100 participants joined us, enjoying the sun, the views, the churches and Stathis' tsipouro/fatourada at the end.
Many thanks to the Souris family for opening the Pantanassa Church, Eva and Manolis for our visit to the Xestratigos Church, and to Stathis, Maria and Stavros for the heartwarming welcome at their tsipouro distillery.
See you next Sunday, at 2 pm, somewhere on the island...

Today, we continued with clearing another part of the path from Dourianika to Krotiri and Agios Giorgos Church.
This part was completely overgrown with trees and shrubs. Hard work but with a beautiful result. It will take us quite a few more days to make the whole path accessable again.
When this path will be ready, I am sure that it will become one of Kythira's highlights.
Many thanks to Chrysafitis Bakery Potamos for providing the super fresh sandwiches!!
Stay tuned and in the meantime: keep on walking!!
