This beautifully situated church is at only a 15 minutes walking distance from Potamos.
It is the Agios Stefanos Church, north-west of Potamos cemetery. After a relaxed late afternoon walk, you will be enjoying a wonderful sunset. Just go!!

The first banners advertising the summer festivals, the panigiria, have been spotted again, signalling the start of the Kythirian summer 2024.
Music, dance, food and drinks. Don't miss it because it's great fun to dance the Karavitikos, the Chaniotikos or the Kalamatianos together with enthusiastic Greek islanders.

Another beautiful day with our Greek Herbalist Group. Yesterday, we started with a visit to Karavas Bakery and a walk through the lush valley from Keramari Spring to Portokalia. After a lovely picnic (many thanks to Lemonokipos) at Portokalia we headed for Kokkinochorafa for the Thyme Honey Bee Excursion. Many thanks to Yannis, Eleni and Stefanos for the wonderful tour and refreshing sage tea!!

One of yesterday's activities for our Greek Herbalist Group was the Olive Oil Soap Workshop. In her lush and green garden, Fotini showed us how to make soap, using different kinds of herbs and flowers. A lovely morning!!

This weekend the Greek Herbalist group arrived in Kythira for a Herbal Medicine Tour honoring Juliette de Bairacli Levy.
After yesterday's welcome meeting in Avlemonas we strolled through the village already enjoying the fragrance of many herbs and plants.

The last hiking day for our enthusiastic Belgian walking group...
Around Chora to Trachilas, Agios Minas Church, Mesa Vourgo, Kastro and Kapsali. A walk with dusty but beautiful views, a lot of history and a relaxed lunch at Trattamento.
Next year they will be back for more walking fun!!!

Today we walked from Agios Dimitrios at Pourko to Klaradika, Kaki Melissa and Livadi. All along beautiful paths.
We completed the walk with a tasty lunch at Pierros.
Tomorrow will be the last walking day for our Belgian friends...

Yesterday, our hiking group explored the area around Mylopotamos: watermill valley, Arei and Kato Chora. A very enjoyable day with a shady and more than delicious lunch at Platanos.
Today, we will discover trails around Livadi. Just stay tuned...

Another wonderful hiking day...
Today we walked from Agia Pelagia to Potamos where we visited the Sunday morning market. And we continued our walk to Melitianika and Trifyllianika, finishing in Paleochora. Here we enjoyed an amazing picnic in a beautiful setting.
Tomorrow, more walking fun around Mylopotamos.

Time flies... day 4 with our Belgian hiking friends.
Today we walked around Mitata, Kythira's balcony. After a visit to the Kryfo Scholeio, we went to the Black Cave and visited Agios Ioannis Cave Church. After a pleasant stroll to Amoutsi and Gonia (with a visit to Agia Kyriaki Church) we enjoyed a traditional Greek lunch at Tavern Michalis. All perfect!!

Day two with our enthusiastic Belgian hiking friends. A more than 10 km walk from Potamos to Mavrila, Katsoulianika, Kousounari, Mangounades Valley, Dourianika, Krotiria and Skliri Hill.
And of course we finished with a lunch at Grygorakis in Aroniadika.
Looking forward to day three...

A hiking group from Belgium arrived for a 10 day guided walking holiday.
Today we had a great start with a day walk from Karavas to Diakopoulianika, the lush Karavas valley with its fresh water springs, Dedianika, Moudari Lighthouse and Platia Ammos. Here, we enjoyed a lovely lunch at Fiorenza.
Tomorrow, more walking fun!!

A very enjoyable 4 hours guided walk this morning around Livadi with a visit to three different churches: Panagia Katafygadiotissa near Klaradika, Agios Dimitrios at Pourko, and Kaki Melissa.
Since walking makes you hungry, our guests enjoyed a lovely lunch at Pierros after the walk.

New hiking routes along old trails, pure walking pleasure on Kythira!
From the plateau with panoramic views, we descend into the valley via an old footpath.
It is quiet between the stone walls, through the trees the sunlight falls on the path, a serene peace comes over us. At the ruins of watermills, we see tracks all over from a watery past, lime deposits like lace stick to the walls where in earlier days the water would cascade over.
Sitting on the stone in front of the watermill we imagine how the water swirled from pool to pool, how the light reflected on the water.
Still, the enchantment of this place is very strong, to be connected with the landscape, nature and the local history. The big pink stone, polished by all those footsteps of people who went by on these “monopathi”. They also heard the blackbirds sing, saw the ants crossing the path in columns. Conversations and musings still floating in the air.
This new round walk is a real experience, starting in Mylopotamos in front of the famous restaurant “Platanos”, along the shady watermill valley, through a beautiful cypress forest, over old church paths to the olive groves of Arei village.
In the walking guide “Kythira on foot” from Pyrgos House, 8 new walking routes are included.
Round walks that take you all over Kythira and that will stay with you forever.

The third excursion day brought our Greek Dance Seminar group to Osios Theodoros, the Sunday morning market in Potamos, a beautiful walk to Paleochora and a delicious lunch at Sotiris in Avlemonas.
A perfect Sunday during a wonderful dance holiday in Kythira!!

Yesterday, for this couple, we organized a mainly off road bike tour around Potamos. They were surprised by the variety in landscape, the stunning views and the lovely villages.

Today, our dance seminar group didn't have dance lessons. We arranged a lovely excursion to Mylopotamos where we visited the Agios Charalampos Church, walked through the watermill valley and had a delicious lunch at Platanos.
Then we went to the Katouni Bridge and had a great time at Roussos Ceramics. A day full of impressions and even dances on unexpected locations.
Back to the dance class tomorrow...

And yes, our Greek Dance Seminar Group had a good time at the sunny Easter celebrations in Agia Pelagia.
The last two days they learned the Tsirigotikos, Mesaritikos and the Zacharakia, so they had great fun to join the others.
Today, back to the seminar again to learn more Greek dances...
