6-7-8 Νοvember 2021 Katerini Greece
100th anniversary of Iannis Xenakis
Olympolis Art Project was created in Pieria by the cultural and sports association "Olympus Eagles". In recent years, it has been organizing art festivals of original ideas and gastronomy, with the aim of highlighting the cultural heritage of Olympus. Using art as a tool, it aims to activate public spaces, artistic exchanges, the fermentation of new ideas on issues of environmental and social ethics / aesthetics, always taking into consideration the modern social web that is in a constant "on the road" situation, and in a continuous state under development.
We believe in collaboration, in the artistic interaction between inspired professionals and organizations, we work for public education, sustainability and social cohesion.
We are looking for new ways of communication in the new world that is being formed and opened before us, worrying creatively about the future of arts, sciences and letters, in the post-digital age, where it is already apparent that the body in the modern world is changing and transforming through virtual reality and we are waiting for the new form in human nature and condition. This name was chosen for the for-day educational-research that will take place in Katerini from 6 to 9 November 2021 and will be the first stage of the multi-thematic hybrid festival of duration.
PROMETHEUS I(annis)X(enakis) that we are preparing for the period 2022-23 is a multidimensional tribute to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous Greek composer and architect IANNIS XENAKIS who made an international career in Paris from 1946 and is considered to be the father of modern electroacoustic music by many people.
Since the summer of 2019, when the contacts with the Japanese cultural ambassador of the AItci region, musician and researcher KUNIKO KATO, Olympus origin choreographer and dancer Harris Gkekas and the Romanian artist Lucian E Matei began, we managed to be co-financed by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Municipality of Katerini and to enjoy the auspices from Greek National Tourism Organization(GNTO), of the Japan Embassy in Greece, the Ministry of Culture, the Greek community of Luxembourg, the Department of Hellenic Studies of Chicago University, the International Monument Foundation of Great Alexander and C.I.X. (Center Iannis Xenakis) based at the University of Rouen in Normandy, as well as private sponsors.
The second goal is to explore through artistic collaborations the similarities of Japanese with Greek culture and finally to highlight the wider region of Olympus and central Macedonia as a destination for cultural tourism through the routes of “LUMINUS OLYMPUS OF ALEXANDER” that we propose. Each day, Ioannis Skopeteas, Professor of Screenwriting and Directing at the University of the Aegean, together with his team record the events in order to create a narrative documentary.
The project will take place in the abandoned department store “EUROPEAN MARKET”, opposite PPC, 44 Irinis and Heroes Square corner in the center of Katerini and will be broadcasted online.
Finally, we would like to inform you that Prometheus IX was qualified for the second phase of the evaluation of "Eleusis, European Capital of Culture 2023" in a process in which 1780 artistic proposals from 47 countries participated.
