Roger and Brigitte, our Swiss friends, set sail on a Round-The-World adventure aboard their sailing yacht FANTÀSIA, starting from Lefkada in the Ionian Sea, Greece on May 2022 💙🌎
Their journey so far?
They have been across diverse continents, from the Mediterranean's scenic shores to the tropical paradise of the Caribbean. They've crossed the Atlantic Ocean, exploring hidden gems and vibrant cultures, vibrant cities and tranquil landscapes. Their route blends thrilling Ocean crossings with of tranquility and togetherness, making it a true voyage of discovery. Embracing the freedom of the open sea, they continue to create unforgettable memories, with their journey currently unfolding in Panama 🇵🇦
Itinerary of their trip so far aboard the Yacht FANTASIA by Roger & Brigitte Bauer:
•DEC 22: After long southerly winds, a weather window opens for crossing to Cape Verde, where Christmas is celebrated at sea. After 5 days, arrival at Palmeira on Sal Island, Cabo Verde. All is well.
•FEB 23: Arrive at Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. Planning to sail in this big bay. Salvador is beautiful but dangerous at night, with the famous Carnival approaching. Weather is sunny and hot.
•MAY 23: Heading North again after visiting Rio da Serra, toward Recife, Natal, towards the Caribbean.
•JUNE 23: Winter in Brazil with heavy rain. They observe more plastic waste washed up from the Atlantic and efforts by local fishermen to collect it. Navigating the Rio dos Passos was challenging, requiring high tide timing and precise navigation. Learning how to handle tough situations in rain shower and remote locations.
•SEP 23: After 3,500 nm and almost 3 months along Brazil's coast, the Amazon delta and the 3 Guyanas (French Guyana, Suriname and Guyana) they are back in crystal clear Caribbean water in Tobago for some rest before maintenance work on FANTÀSIA.
•JAN 24: Discovering a lonely, beautiful bays in the Caribbean (without other yachts around!), with crystal-clear waters and diverse vegetation from mangroves to cacti. Plus, frigate and white-tailed tropicbirds.
•MAY 24: Their time in Cuba is marked by struggles with internet signal, scarcity of basic supplies, and a contrast between the beauty of the country and its hardships due to the US embargo. Despite challenges, they enjoy this famous culture. Locals are kind, helpful, true artists of life, despite having very little. After 4 weeks in Cuba, happy to replenish their supplies in Jamaica.
•DEC 24: After extensive maintenance of FANTÀSIA, in Cartagena De Indias, Colombia, which included replacing parts and adding new features (like replacing the peripheral teak with fiberglass), they are back at sea and ready for new adventures. Despite the threat of the Terciopelo lance viper snake, they are excited for what lies ahead.
Their journey spans continents, climates, and cultures, from the Brazilian coastline to the Caribbean and beyond, offering a glimpse into the life of our adventurous sailors! ⛵️💙🩵⏩⏩
