We're 10 this month!
We started building Villa Gabriella in 2010 and finished in 2014. We welcomed our first guests in May 2014 - 10 years ago!
A few things have changed - we've added the hot tub, the outside lounge and the outside pergolas over the years .... but what's not changed are the amazing views, the solitude and the tranquility of our location. Nor has the luxury throughout the villa.
We still have 6 weeks left to book this season - so it's not too late to enjoy the full Villa Gabriella holiday experience - headlined by that view!

We’re putting the final touches to our pre-season preparations.
A new sofa on the upstairs terrace is nicely positioned to take in the best view in the house.

Ionian paradise. It’s a glorious spring afternoon. The pool is heating nicely (checked at 21C this afternoon) and should be up to temperature in another few days. Sometimes cleaning makes you happy! Our beautiful marble bench (perfectly placed for the last of the day’s sunshine in the summer) was looking a bit grubby. Lots of marble cleaner, a bit of scrubbing and a good pressure wash and it’s looking as resplendent as it did when it was first assembled on site. It’s all in the details!

There are worse ways to wind down after another day’s villa preparation - not helped by yesterday’s “red rain”. Horrible stuff, fresh from the Sahara but makes a real mess of the terraces! But then you pour a glass of wine, and let the view wash over you and the world’s all good again!

A big thank you to Andreas for the kind invitation to lunch. Wonderful food and a tour of this amazing place that’s just down the hill from us. An approach to food that resonates with us - fresh, local, simple, traditional and Greek. All based on high quality ingredients. The micro farm is on our personal “Top 10” things to do on Lefkada. Joanna was busy yesterday finishing our 2024 Marmalade. We now have a good supply for guests this summer. Perfect on a slice of toast for breakfast alongside a fresh coffee from our bean to cup machine.

We finally got the pool full & running this morning after a couple of minor gremlins with valves during the earlier part of the week. Now we’re getting the chemistry right - but it’s already 20C! Almost time for the heat pump to do its thing!
The season draws close and we’re getting through the pre-season task list.

We’re taking an evening off from the season prep to share a bottle of Chapel Down English Sparkling Wine by the beach and to soak up that sunset. There’s something special about Ionian evenings and sunsets.
The marriage of a Greek sunset on this island that’s stolen our hearts and our love for great English Fizz seems so very appropriate on this special day as we celebrate 35 years of marriage.

Another milestone today! Pool lights were reinstalled this morning and pool 🏊 filling has officially started! By Monday morning we should be ready to start fine tuning the PH and chlorine levels.
Work is also ongoing in the gardens (watch this space) and the materials to reroof the master bedroom terrace pergola have arrived.
Oh yes, and today was another scorcher - fully 31C! That pool is going to be most welcome!

That’s the pre-season pool clean done! Next up a light sand and then a new coat of two part epoxy paint.

An important day in the Greek calendar and in Greek history. Today we celebrate Greek Independence Day. In a world still beset with illegal occupation we celebrate the right for each and every nation to be free from occupation and repression.
The 2024 summer season's fast approaching and we'll be sharing some of our season preparations shortly. But just a quick shout that today is "Independent Accommodation Day"! Yes, we know, we have a few too many of these "days" but, we're here, we're independent accommodation and who doesn't like an epic Ionian seaview?
You can of course book direct - just email or message us. Or, if you prefer, you'll find us on the main booking platforms too. It's the same spacious, luxurious accommodation and it's the same breathtaking view. But it won't be the same price 😉.

Today is the so called "Blue Monday". The day in the middle of January, after the weekend, when everyone's finally left behind the euphoria of Christmas & new year celebrations. When the northern European winter seems to stretch forever ahead, when the days are short, the sunshine all too rare and frankly, if you've not done so yet, then you start thinking about summer, sandy beaches, warm sunshine and the joy of summers in the Ionian.

And that’s a wrap on the hot tub and the season. Flushed, sanitised and polished to within an inch of its life. And now tucked up under its winter cover. No more evenings in the hot tub, with a glass of “something” gazing at that view. Well at least not until next season 😉.

Delivery day for the new beds for our fourth bedroom. And with the new style comes the option to make this room up as either twin beds or another superking - with a super comfy mattress topper joining the beds. After some wood boring beetles 🪲 took a fancy to one of our pergola beams (hard to imagine how they’ve munched almost right through a 160x70mm beam) we’ve just had a new beam installed and pre-treated with an anti-beetle solution. Just need to get up there now and get some dark coloured wood shield applied! And on the subject of colours - just look at the colour of that sky! Autumn? Not really!Villa Gabriella. Ionian luxury. End of season maintenance.
So far that’s 8 chairs, 7 side tables, 1 bench and 1 woodshed (plus some minor bits) that have been lovingly sanded and either sealed, varnished or oiled.

Work continues. Today a top up of the inhibitor for the solar thermal hot water. This system produces almost all our hot water direct from the sun. Only occasionally, with a couple of days of consecutive bad weather, do we need the electric back up.
It all helps reduce our carbon footprint!

October 18th. Dinner on the beach in a t-shirt. Fine Greek wine. Great food. The chilled vibe as the season winds down. Yamas!

A final 2023 clean for the pool. Perfect for the last few days of the season before we shut it down after the weekend. Still 22C but an extra 90 minutes of heating should get it back to 23-24C by this afternoon. Special thanks to .gr for such brilliant pool care for our guests all summer.
