🌿 SYMPEGA: Advancing Sea Buckthorn Cultivation with Precision Agriculture 🌱

At FRIETS, we are committed to foster innovation in the agri-food sector, which is why we’re thrilled to showcase the SYMPEGA project, a remarkable initiative applying Precision Agriculture to the cultivation of Sea buckthorn—a crop of exceptional nutritional and environmental value.

Sea buckthorn (Hippophaë rhamnoides L.) is recognized as a functional superfood, rich in vitamin C, omega fatty acids, and bioactive compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. However, like many high-value crops, its cultivation faces challenges related to soil quality, climate adaptation, and resource efficiency. The SYMPEGA project addresses these challenges by introducing innovative Precision Agriculture methodologies that:
• Optimize yield and quality of berries through data-driven farming practices.
• Reduce input use, such as water, minimizing environmental impact.
• Support soil regeneration and long-term sustainability in agriculture.
The harvested berries are used to create a biofunctional yogurt enriched with sea buckthorn, promoting a new standard in health-focused diets. This initiative resonates with the vision of FRIETS, where we prioritize value chain optimization and the creation of sustainable, nutrient-preserving food solutions.

The SYMPEGA project is funded by the Greek Rural Development Program, under the auspices of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
