Most tourists will come to Karpathos by plane. When the airlines are fully booked and when you simply don't like the time schedule, you might be interested in going by boat. By ferry that really is.

It takes about 24 hours to travel from Karpathos to Athens by ferry. You can stare into the sea and sea some other harbors. Quite a comfy trip!

The Poseidon Cave in the valley of Pigadia. One of the island's natural sites is the cave of Poseidon. It was used either as a rock-cut tomb or a sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon or Aphrodite. For those who do not know Aphrodite, she is the Greek goddess of love and beauty. You can visit this cave on foot from the city center and the entrance is for free.

The Poseidon cave in Pigadia was used either as a rock-cut tomb or a sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon or Aphrodite. You find it in the valley of the island.

Achata beach on the East of Karpathos. Drive from Pigadia to the North for about 15 minutes and find a beautiful road on your right down to Achata beach. While you leave Pigadia you pass two gas stations and a village called Aperi. Just before the big soccer field you will find an exit to your right. There is a sign with an umbrella saying Axata - Achata or Axata, it's the same place.

On Achata beach you will find big pebble stones on the beach, crystal clear blue water in the sea and the rough looking surrounding of a cliff.

Life is Blue! In the harbor of Pigadia you will find Karpathos Diving Center.

Expect lots of amazingly beautiful small and big swim-troughs full of colorful sponges, a rocky reef and pebble-stones on the ocean's floor where sepia like to hide.

An amazing photo taken by of her boyfriend in Achata beach on the east coast of Karpathos island. The crystal clear water here is just pure amazing and for experienced divers and freedivers as these two are, it can't be any better.

Thom says, -'Both me and Renate have been diving in some amazing spots in the world but we have never seen anywhere near as clear water as here. On a good day you can have visibility of 30-40 meters.'

Karpathos offer great conditions for all kind of divers and it's clear water gives you chances of capturing photos like this.
