Most tourists will come to Karpathos by plane. When the airlines are fully booked and when you simply don't like the time schedule, you might be interested in going by boat. By ferry that really is.

The Poseidon Cave in the valley of Pigadia. One of the island's natural sites is the cave of Poseidon. It was used either as a rock-cut tomb or a sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon or Aphrodite. For those who do not know Aphrodite, she is the Greek goddess of love and beauty. You can visit this cave on foot from the city center and the entrance is for free.

Achata beach on the East of Karpathos. Drive from Pigadia to the North for about 15 minutes and find a beautiful road on your right down to Achata beach. While you leave Pigadia you pass two gas stations and a village called Aperi. Just before the big soccer field you will find an exit to your right. There is a sign with an umbrella saying Axata - Achata or Axata, it's the same place.

An amazing photo taken by of her boyfriend in Achata beach on the east coast of Karpathos island. The crystal clear water here is just pure amazing and for experienced divers and freedivers as these two are, it can't be any better.

Thom says, -'Both me and Renate have been diving in some amazing spots in the world but we have never seen anywhere near as clear water as here. On a good day you can have visibility of 30-40 meters.'

Our Story

Karpathos is an island loved by many yet unknown to the most of us. We want to show you the true beauty of this Dodecanese island. Fall in love, get to know Karpathos better and visit it! On www.lovekarpathos.com you'll find all the information and inspiration you need.

When Renate arrived to Karpathos she didn’t fall in love straight away as she always felt the need the explore before judging a destination. She worked as the tour representative for Sunweb and did her fair share of touring the island in her first week. It was when she met Thom that she started to get a crush on the island. Exploring the island together. Karpathos had stolen her heart (and so did Thom).

In the last years they met many people who had never heard about Karpathos and when they Googled it together they would find only little information available in English. That’s when they thought about starting a full online guide about Karpathos. Articles about the best beaches for swimming or snorkeling, where you can go hiking, how to get to and around Karpathos, perhaps where to stay, what to eat and so on. Their mission is to inform and inspire you for your stay on β€œthe rock”.
