Honored to Keep Learning! ✡️🎓

Thrilled to have attended a 4-day seminar on Jewish Culture and Religion in Greece, deepening my understanding of its rich history, traditions, and spiritual heritage. Continuous learning is key to offering more insightful and meaningful experiences in my tours.
During our sessions, we have learned about finds in various places around Athens, like the Ancient Greek and Roman markets, we have visited The Holocaust Memorial and the two synagogues of Athens. The cemetery and the Jewish museum. We walked around the area with the strongest Jewish presence in the early 20th century and we learned about the restaurants that prepare Kosher food in the city.

Grateful for this opportunity to expand my knowledge and excited to share it with my guests! 🌍✨

~The Athenian Trilogy~

📖The Athenian Trilogy is a stunning ensemble of three neoclassical buildings in the centre of Athens, considered masterpieces of 19th-century architecture. Designed by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen, the buildings symbolize Greece’s intellectual and cultural revival after independence.
Together, these three buildings reflect Greece’s dedication to education, philosophy, and the arts, seamlessly blending classical inspiration with modern aspirations.
💡 The term Neoclassical comes from the Greek words "neo-" (νέο) meaning "new" and "classical" (κλασικό), which refers to the art, architecture, and ideals of ancient Greece and Rome. It emerged in the 18th century as a revival of classical antiquity, emphasizing harmony, simplicity, and grandeur inspired by ancient styles.
🙋‍♀️Notice the sun hitting differently each building at the same time!

~The Odeon of Herodes Atticus~

📖 The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is one of the most famous ancient theaters in Athens, built in 161 CE by the wealthy Roman aristocrat Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, Regilla. Nestled on the southwestern slope of the Acropolis, this grand structure was designed as a covered concert hall (odeon) for musical performances, lectures, and cultural events, with a capacity of around 5,000 spectators. After its destruction during the Herulian invasion of 267 CE, the Odeon remained in ruins for centuries. However, in the 1950s, it was restored and revived as a performance space.
💡Did you know that even today, the odeon serves as a premier venue for concerts and theatrical performances every summer?

~The old parliament of Athens~

📖The Old Parliament Building, designed by François Boulanger in 1858, housed Greece's Parliament until 1935, when it moved to Syntagma Square. Initially, it was the mansion of a renowned Athenian politician and later it was also chosen as a temporary residence for the first king of Greece, Otto. Repurposed as the National Historical Museum in 1960, it now hosts important exhibitions and cultural events. Kolokotronis Square, linked to parliamentary history since 1843 today features the equestrian statue of 1821 (War of Greek Independence) hero Theodoros Kolokotronis. In the second picture, the statue of Charilaos Trikoupis, a Greek politician who served as a Prime Minister of Greece seven times.
💡Did you know that there is an exact copy of the bronze statue of Kolokotronis in the first capital of Greece, the city of Nafplion?

🏛️”The Erechtheion”🏛️

🖋️~The temple known for its unique and complex design, as well as its historical and architectural significance~
📖Built between 421 and 406 BCE, the Erechtheion was designed to honour both Athena, the patron goddess of Athens, and Poseidon, the god of the Sea, along with other deities and legendary figures. It stands out for its asymmetrical and unconventional layout and for the emblematic porch of the Caryatids. These six statues serve as both decorative and structural components, replacing traditional columns.
💡Did you know that five of the original statues are preserved in the Acropolis museum while the sixth one is exhibited in the British museum?

🏛️”The Temple of Athena Nike”🏛️

🖋️~A small but significant temple, testament to the cultural and artistic achievements of Ancient Greece~
📖The temple of Athena Nike was designed by the architect Callicrates and it was built between 426 BCE and 421 BCE. It was dedicated to Athena Nike, the goddess who embodied both wisdom and victory. The word “Nike”, Νίκη in Greek, means victory. The temple itself was a symbol of Athens’ strength and triumph in war. It served as a place of worship and a symbol of Athens’ military success, while a statue of Athena Nike without wings (Ápteros -wingless- Nike) was placed inside, symbolising that the victory would never leave Athens. The temple has replaced older temples whose remains are preserved inside the bastion. Actually, the small openings in the façade of the construction were left on purpose exposed, to showcase a part of the Mycenaean fortification of the 13th century BCE.
💡Did you know that the famous brands’ ✔️ name was inspired by this Greek goddess? As the goddess Nike is usually depicted with wings, the meaning of the logo of the company signifies speed and movement in athletic performance.

🏛️”The Parthenon”🏛️

🖋️~A timeless marvel of Ancient Greece and an iconic symbol of classical architecture and culture~
📖The Parthenon is a magnificent ancient temple located on the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. Dedicated to the goddess Athena, the patron deity of Athens, this architectural masterpiece stands as a testament to the ingenuity and artistic brilliance of ancient Greece. Built between 447 BCE and 432 BCE, it was designed initially to serve as a temple that would house the colossal statue of Athena, made of gold and ivory. The architects of the temple were Ictinus and Callicrates, while the sculptor of Athena’s statue, the Parthenon’s sculpted decoration and general supervisor of the building program of Pericles was Phidias.
💥In 1687, during the siege of the Acropolis by the Venetians, the Parthenon was bombarded and catastrophically destroyed, as at that time it was used by the Ottomans as a gunpowder magazine.
💡Did you know that there is a full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Centennial Park, Nashville, Tennessee? (see pic. 2)
