Today, the 13th of September, in our village Malona we celebrate the Panigiri of "Stavros" ("Elevation of the Holy Cross"), situated on the local road towards village Malona from Rhodes city. The Celebration will start with a church service and will be followed by a festival at 21.00 with live Greek music, traditional dancing and lots of souvlaki!

Panagia Tsampika Monastery (Virgin Mary of Tsampika) is a very popular place of pilgrimage among Orthodox Christians. It is located on the east coast of the island, less than 28 km from Rhodes Town and about 6 km from Malona.

The adjective following the Virgin Mary, “Tsambika”, is a nickname that is believed to have been derived from the term in the local dialect of Archangel “tsampa” that means spark or flame. This has something to do with the religious tradition of how the image was found...
