Experience a Cretan festival or “panigiri”
The endless celebrations and local festivals of Chania connect people with their past traditions. Plenty of "Panigiria" take place every summer around Chania and embrace both locals and tourists, always accompanied by excellent Cretan products, music, and dancing.

"Panigiria" are religious celebrations of village patron saints that often have a religious and a social or celebratory component. First, people head to the church to pray and pay their respects. Then they head to a predetermined area, often the biggest village square, and sit in communal tables, where the feast begins. The hours are long, entertaining and joyful. Plates sometimes get smashed, dancing is a must and good wine and company complete the ideal picture.

📍 Sweet Water beach - Glyka Νera

After a visit to the beach, earlier this morning, it's hard to believe that we live in a material world.
Sweet Water beach is set in a stunning location at the foot of a 600 m cliff and is one of the most beautiful beaches in Crete. Fortunately it can't be accessed by road and that keeps it out of the reach of mass-tourism. There are now umbrellas in some parts of the beach but otherwise it is left fairly untouched. The beach is called Sweetwater (Glyka Nera) because spring water can be found just below the surface of the pebbles. You'll see that some spots have been dug out (by campers or beach regulars). It's perfectly good drinking water.

📍 Skaloti Gorge

Skaloti is one of the many parallel canyons of the wider area of Fragokastelo. It is a small canyon, 2km long, starting from the beautiful plateau Manikas and ending at the seaside village Skaloti after 2:30 hours hiking in an old stone paved path with steep slopes. The canyon is initially open and then narrows and the walls gets vertical. The vegetation is mainly limited to bushes and brushwood. The stream Perama crosses the gorge and empties on the beach of Lakki.
