Вулисмено Алони находится приблизительно в 15км на запад от Ираклиона, рядом со старой дорогой у деревни Маратос, соединяющей Ираклион и Ретимно. Это один из наиболее странных геологических феноменов Греции. Здесь находится огромный провал (карстовая воронка) округлой формы, сформированная в ходе осаждения более старой пещеры. Максимальный диаметр провала достигает 90м, в то время как высота стен колеблется от 15 до 50м!

Название «Вулисмено Алони» означает провалившийся пол и происходит от устного предания о создании этой воронки, согласно которому один местный фермер молол здесь зерно. В праздник Пророка Ильи, фермер со своей женой и дочерью занялись перемалыванием зерна, хотя в этот праздник нельзя работать. Позже в качестве наказания, пол под ними провалился, и неверующая семья исчезла. Даже сейчас, местные жители говорят, что в этот праздник можно услышать шум молотьбы и песню фермерской дочки.

Стены Вулисмено Алони идеально подходят для скалолазания и почти каждые выходные здесь проводятся семинары школ скалолазания.
