CRETAN NIGHT

If you want to feel really like a true Cretan, come with us to the traditional village of Kato Karouzana, a night dedicated to music, to dance and to tasty local food. Reaching the ancient village, we have the chance to take our walk through this magnificent place and be surprised by the locals’ hospitality. At dusk, we are going to enjoy the traditional feast, taste the delicious dishes with the cheese, the virgin olive oil, the meat and all the other products of the Cretan soil.

Get treated with the wine, listen to the sound of the Cretan “Lyra” and take delight in looking at the dancers, dressed in their traditional costumes performing Cretan and Greek folk dances.

At the end of the night, we can also join the dancers, who will teach us the basic steps, so that we can also dance like modern Zorbas!

Lasithi

Our first stop is at the historical monastery of Kera Kardiotissa, a monastery inhabited and run by nuns, which is located in an idyllic landscape. Here you can admire the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary, plenty of frescoes and a variety of other icons, dating back to the 14th century.

Then, we head to Lasithi Plateau, one of the few areas in the Mediterranean with permanent inhabitants at an altitude over 800 meters. It is surrounded by the Dikti Mountains and 18 quaint villages, which still retain the atmosphere of another era. You can admire the remaining famous windmills and the Venetian ditches, the drainage system of the Plateau.

The next stop will be the village of Psychro. You can visit the Dicteon Cave with the fantastic stalactites and stalagmites, where according to the myth God Zeus was born. Psychro is also well known for its handmade ceramics and the workshop there will leave you with the best impressions after your visit.

Our last stop, Tzermiado, the capital of the villages on the plateau, will amaze you with its natural beauty, its traditional architecture and its breathtaking views. Here you can take pictures of the wonderful landscape, rest for a while and enjoy your lunch in one of the local taverns.

Chrissi Island 60€

This tour is the most suitable excursion for swimming and relaxation all the day on the famous hippies beach in Matala.This is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Crete and certainly the most famous beach of south Heraklion prefecture. It is famous for the carved caves in the rocks and the hippies of the ‘70s.

You have plenty of time to discover the caves, to swim in the clear crystal waters of Matala, having lunch on the taverns which are located on the beach and enjoy your coffee relaxing and sunbathing under the warm sun. Before we arrive in Matala, we make a short stop in Kaliviani Monastery; it is a relatively new monastery which was built on the ruins of an older one. Kaliviani is a typical example of a foundation that offers help and charity to poor and needy people. In 1956, the bishop Timothy Papoutsakis created a Christian Foundation based in the monastery. He built an orphanage, hospice, and housekeeping school for girls, elementary school, kindergarten, summer camps, workshops of weaving, knitting and making vestments, etc.

Matala is located at the exit of a small valley, which forms an enclosed bay with nice view to the islands of Paximadia. The beautiful sandy beach is 300m long, with fine gravel and crystal clear deep water. Moreover, the seabed is quite rocky in some places (especially in the central part of the beach) and waves are common, due to frequent west winds. Furthermore, there is a huge cave on the north part of the beach, from the top of which some people dive. The beach is very well organized with umbrellas, toilets, showers, lifeguard, first aids, beach volley courts, snack bars, water sports, excursion boats, a camping site, etc.

This is the best tour for swimming without paying any entrance fees, boat tickets etc

Samaria gorge.

An experience not to be missed! Hike along the rugged terrain of the Samaria Gorge cutting through a limestone plateau and at a length of 18 kilometres it is Europe’s longest gorge.

You will visit and will surely be enchanted by the beautiful landscapes of Crete. At one point of the gorge the walls are only 3 metres apart from each other, and are known as the ’iron curtains’ with sides rising sheer up to 100 feet.

The hike is followed by the opportunity for lunch break late in the afternoon at a local traditional taverna or coffee or swimming at Agia Roumeli at the end of Gorge.

After break we do a short cruise around the southern coastline to the pretty costal village of Chora Sfakion, where our journey ends and take our way back to your hotels.

Should take: Proper walking shoes, photo camera, a bottle of water, fruits or sweets during the walk, swimming gear, bathing suit.

The beach of Preveli. 50€

The beach of Preveli, also known as Lake Preveli or Phoenix, is located at the exit of the imposing Kourtaliotikos Gorge, where the Grand River (Megalos Potamos) flows. It is certainly the most famous beach in South Crete, accepting thousands of visitors every summer. During the ‘60s and ‘70s, it was a favorite destination for the hippies.

On the banks of the Grand River there is a large colony of Theophrastus palm trees, which give the region a sense of a tropical landscape. This is the second largest palm forest of Crete, after the palm forest of Vai.

The river forms a small lake, 500 m long, before emptying into the sea. You can walk along the river, under the shade of palm trees, and start ascending in the beautiful canyon. At the exit of the river, a beautiful beach with pebbles and sand is formed.

Moreover, in the eastern part of the beach, there is a beautiful rock which looks like a heart. Here, you will have plenty of free time to enjoy swimming in the turquoise waters, to sunbathe under the warm sun and to explore this tropical and very unique landscape.

The bus will stop at a parking lot, the closest to the beach, where there is a path descending down to the beach.

The parking is located near towering vertical cliffs, where you can take some fantastic photos. To reach the beach walk the footpath (app. 300 stairs) that takes about 15 minutes.

After, approximately 4 hours of free time at the beach, the day will come to an end and we will make our way back to your hotels.

the port of Hersonissos. After 20 minutes journey
passing by from the bays of Anissaras we arrive at the
waters of Saint Georges Bay close to the beach. At our
