As one of the selected tourism enterprises in Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Italy, and Spain, we are honored to be a part of this incredible initiative that aims to foster sustainability and resilience in the tourism industry by 2030.

Congratulations to Mazi Travel from Greece for successfully attaining the Travelife Certified award!

Mazi Travel participated in the EU-funded SUSTOUR project and achieved the Travelife certification in the frame of the SUSTOUR support program for SMEs. Over 600 companies from 35 European countries took part in this program until mid-2023.

Achieving the Travelife Certified award means that the company has complied with more than 200 sustainability-related criteria concerning sustainable internal office management, product range, international business partners, and customer information.

With a glittering ceremony at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Athens, some of the most important initiatives in Greek tourism were celebrated on 27/04.
The Tourism Awards are the most important awards in the Greek tourism market and highlight quality and innovation in the individual sectors of Travel, Hospitality and Leisure.
The Silver Award was awarded to our company mazi travel & events in the category Sustainability, Sustainable Tourism Development for the thematic tourism product Imathia, As Slow As Possible (Imathia A.s.A.P.) - A New Slow Tourism Destination. Imathia A.s.A.P. offers new tourism experiences, perfectly harmonized with the spirit and principles of Slow Tourism. The services provided by this new tourism product cover the 4 basic categories of services of a complete tourism product: transport, accommodation, food and activities. The tourism packages are based on sustainable development practices, are thematically designed and take into account not only the practical needs of the visitors but also the emotional and spiritual requirements and needs. In this way, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the essence of the cultural and environmental elements that Imathia and Pieria offer.
Care will be taken to ensure that the value-added services offered to visitors will provide meaningful experiences in their lives and spirits. The design of tourism products will promote the character and culture of Imathia and Pieria in an authentic way.

Through the Association of the Greek Tourism & Travel Agencies (HATTA), Mazi Travel participates in the European Programme SUSTOUR, which aims at the enhancement of competence and skills of EU tourism businesses for the adoption of operational and managerial practices combined with relevant systems, to succeed on improving sustainability, performance and market pe*******on.
Travelife, based in the Netherlands, implements the European Programme SUSTOUR and provides training and certification on sustainability management for travel agencies and destination management companies in the EU.
Travelife is a leading training and certification body committed to setting required criteria to implement the transition to a dynamic sustainable operating system. A Sustainability Certificate is provided if the required criteria are satisfied via an extensive company audit related both, to the internal and external management of the company and its corresponding partners/suppliers.
Through the aid of HATTA, and with the professional guidance of Travelife, Mazi Travel has taken the initiative to implement a Sustainable Management System to acquire the Travelife Certificate towards becoming a Travelife Partner. Specifically, having already conducted the staff training cycle, the company is formulating its Sustainability Policy, which will be communicated on Mazi Travel's website, social media and to partners/suppliers.

Mazi Travel, as part of its participation in the European Programme Med Pearls, which focuses on the development of Slow Tourism products, participated in the co-organization of a familiarization trip (fam trip) in cooperation with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the other three tour operators from Greece participating in the Med Pearls Programme. Representatives of tourism businesses from France, the Netherlands and Germany, countries with a heightened awareness of sustainable practices and a strong interest in tourism products for Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean region attended the fam trip.
The itinerary of the fam trip that took place between 24-27 February 2023, included visits, activities and overnight stays in the city of Thessaloniki, the region of Imathia and Pieria, which are the pilot areas of the Med Pearls Programme.
The guests visited a pottery workshop in the region of Pieria and toured the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai and the information centre of the National Park of Olympus. The guests participated in visits to hotels, wineries and cheese dairies, while the local dishes and products they tasted left excellent impressions on the quality and gastronomy of the place. They also came into contact with the folklore of the region by watching the custom "Genitsari and Boules", which is a basic characteristic of Naoussa's cultural heritage, highlighting the identity of the region.
Through its participation in the Med Pearls Programme, Mazi Travel, using creativity and the use of specific design methods and practices, has created the tourism product Imathia A.s.A.P. (Imathia As slow As Possible), which composes a family of ten thematic Slow Tourism programmes with Imathia as the main destination.

The famous "kazania" (en: cauldrons) of Imathia are on fire since October, and you can find them in every single village in the Region of Imathia. “Kazania” is the name of the period when the distillation of the grape marks takes place. You don’t have to search for them, the smell will easily guide you to the right place.

Hundreds of people take part in the extraordinary traditions, with distilled spirits, roasted meat, delicious greek finger food, or “mezedes” as they are called. For the Region of Imathia “kazania” is a great celebration and carries on for two months!

Festivities are organized by dozens of Cultural Associations, all around the Region of Imathia, offering a unique experience full of flavor, traditional music, and, of course, lots of alcohol!

The Programme XpRience Thess was presented for the first time by Mazi Travel & Events at the IFTM Top Resa 2022, in Paris, France, on 20 – 22 September.

IFTM Top Resa is the major French Travel B2B event as a multi-purpose trade show for tourism and travel, with more than 34,000 professionals participating.
In Mazi Travel’s booth, more than 200 meetings with associates were held where the content of the Programme was presented. During these meetings, there was a rather positive feedback regarding the unprecedented experience that will be offered to the participants. The three guided Walking Tours combine Extended Reality Applications that will generate past images of the city, adding a thrilling overtone to the walking tours narrating the city’s history from 1850 to 1950.

The history of wine production in the region of Imathia, in Central Macedonia, Greece, dates back to the Ottoman Era and the imathian wine as a welcoming treat, wins over guests with its flavour, texture and density.

Xinomavro is an exceptional vine variety of the area, rather versatile, which can produce different types of wine, with a complex personality, highlighted by the vinification and aging methods. Equally important are the greek and imported varieties, Roditis, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, that produce wines filled with aromas and strong character.
At an altitude of 80 to 350 meters above sea level, throughout the prefecture of Imathia, the visitor can take a guided tour of wineries and cellars, modern and traditional, in vineyards with organic crops with the winemakers themselves.

The “hidden gem” of Veria, or the “Small Jerusalem” as it is often called, takes you to
another era even with only a promenade. On the northeast part of Veria, the visitor
can meet the Jewish Quarter, Barbouta, with its cobbled streets and imposing
mansions, and there stands the stone building of the old Jewish Synagogue with rich
and ornate decoration.
According to the researchers the Jewish district dates from the 50 AD and the
Roman period. The area attracted more inhabitants of Jewish origin coming from
Spain during the end of the 15th AD century. The district was always "separated"
from the rest of the town, while it was characterized by its distinctive architectural
patterns, natural beauty, and dense vegetation.
