Γεύσεις και αυθεντικές συνταγές της Θεσσαλονίκης θα παρουσιαστούν, στο περίπτερο του Οργανισμού Τουρισμού Θεσσαλονίκης, στην έκθεση που διοργανώνει το περιοδικό National Geographic Traveler με τίτλο «National Geographic Food Festival». Η Παρουσίαση θα γίνει 15 και 16 Ιουλίου στο Λονδίνο.

Η συμμετοχή του Δήμου Θεσσαλονίκης-Μέλους του Δικτύου Δημιουργικών Πόλεων της UNESCO στη διεθνή Έκθεση του National Geographic Traveler γίνεται σε συνεργασία με τον Οργανισμό Τουρισμού Θεσσαλονίκης.

With the aim of strengthening the presence of Thessaloniki in the German and international tourism market, the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization and the Municipality of Thessaloniki participate in ITB Berlin 2023, the world's largest tourism trade show, that will take place in Berlin from Tuesday 7 to Thursday 9 of March with a new focus on B2B customers.

In their joint statement, the Deputy Regional Governor of Thessaloniki and President of the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization, Ms. Voula Patoulidou and the Deputy Mayor of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Ms. Maria Karagianni stated that:
"The Tourism Organization and the Municipality of Thessaloniki are preparing a dynamic presence of the city of Thessaloniki in the tourism trade show «ITB Berlin 2023». The aim of our participation is to network with key players in the tourism industry and promote the comparative advantages of our city in goods and services. We have positive signs and predictions for 2023 tourism season with an increase in arrivals to Thessaloniki from Germany. We are prepared to meet and exceed tourists' expectations and respond the increased competition in tourism market"

Mysticism in Thessaloniki Part 4

After leaving the Gardens of the Passa behind, within 5 minutes you will find yourselves in Mavri Petra Street (translated as Black Stone street). Folk beliefs report that in that particular spot there was a black stone originating from space which was unexpectedly discovered during the devastating fire that befell Thessaloniki in 1917. Due to this stone, a large electromagnetic field is said to have been created resulting in the opening of a space-time gate. Since then every 3 or 15 days at exactly midnight the gate is believed to open up for 15 minutes. Of course we talk about a myth which confers a unique allure to the quaint alley. Do you believe it? You just have to visit the mysterious place and find out yourselves.

Mysticism in Thessaloniki Part 3

There are many urban legends proclaiming that Thessaloniki is traversed by a lot of underground passages and support that the crossroads of all the catacombs end up at the Gardens of the Passa. Another legend of the city associates the park with the old retreat of the governor Seifullah Pasha. In that particular area, plenty of symbols can be discerned on the strange stone structures. It is also considered to have unique supernatural properties and immense geomagnetic energy.

30 άλογα με άμαξες και τους ιππείς τους, από το “Σαλόνι Αλόγου” που φιλοξενεί η 12η Διεθνής Έκθεση Zootechnia, θα παρελάσουν στους δρόμους της Θεσσαλονίκης. Θα ξεκινήσουν από την πύλη της ΧΑΝΘ στις 11:00 και θα κινηθούν προς το άγαλμα του Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου όπου θα σταθμεύσουν για να βγουν φωτογραφίες με πολίτες και επισκέπτες. Ένα μοναδικό υπερθέαμα για όλους.

30 horses with their carriages and equestrians, from the “Horse Show” that is hosted by the 12th International Exhibition Zootechnia, will parade along the streets of Thessaloniki. They will start from the YMCA gate at 11:00 and move towards the statue of Alexander the Great where they will stop in order to be photographed with the citizens and visitors of the city. A unique spectacle for everyone.

Mysticism in Thessaloniki Part 2

Continuing from there, we follow the steps of Saint Paul who visited Thessaloniki for the second time in 49/50 A.D. and stopped at a spring. This spring, from which Holy Water is supposed to come out since then, is located at the foothills of Kedrinos Lofos or Seih Sou. Part of the place was annexed primarily as a section of the garden that belonged to Saint Demetrius hospital. In 1904, the area was altered into a recreational space and gradually became known as the Gardens of the Passa. Inside the garden, you can marvel at many examples of spectacular architecture; similar to which can only be seen at Park Güell, the reflection of Gaudí's artistic plenitude, in Barcelona. Going up alongside the outer eastern walls of the city, after passing Plateia Syntrivaniou, you will come across the Gardens of the Passa also know as “Drakospita” or “Dervishes’ Lair” and directly above the park you can find the Crypt of Apostle Paul. The Walls of Thessaloniki Part 4

Lastly, you can conclude your walking tour by visiting the only active monastery of Thessaloniki from the Byzantine era till now. Of course, we talk about Moni Vlatadon, founded in the middle of the 14th century by the monk siblings Dorotheus and Marcus Vlatis. The monastery belongs to the Ecumenical Partiachate and on the inside we can see a rare depiction of Gregory Palamas. Do not miss the chance to visit its sacristy where you can find many portable icons, sculptures, manuscripts as well as other historical and religious relics of the Byzantine period. Before you leave take a few minutes to admire upon the small peacock farm that resides in the garden of the monastery.

The Walls of Thessaloniki Part 3

Continuing from there only a heartbeat away we reach Trigoniou Tower, the spot which the Turks used to invade the city. Built in the middle of the 15th century, it demonstrates many architectural, structural and morphological similarities with the White Tower. Due to its strategic location, it was rendered a pillbox of primary importance replacing the earlier Byzantine tower. After the 18th century it was used as a repository for weapons and gunpowder. Besides exploring the Tower, you can also gaze at Thessaloniki from above as it offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city; making it a popular sightseeing area for locals and visitors alike. The Walls of Thessaloniki Part 2

Going down from Yedi Kule, you can enjoy a walk among the narrow stone paved alleys and its quaint neighborhoods where you can distinguish imposing mansions of Macedonian architecture. Near the church of Agioi Anargiroi, it is worth to make a stop at the double gate of Anna Palaiologina, the Byzantine empress who lived in Thessaloniki during the 14th century and contributed to the reinforcement of the walls. The Walls of Thessaloniki Part 1

The Walls of the city alongside Vlatadon Monastery in Ano Poli are among the many monuments which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. For anyone interested in exploring the beauties of Thessaloniki, we suggest starting an enjoyable relaxing walk from the highest point of Ano Poli, Yedi Kule. The spectacular fortress of Heptapyrgion is located in the northeastern part of the Walls and is the prefect spot for walking as you can go inside the fortress and tour its facilities, which consist of ten towers, but also see the newer prison buildings that have been constructed on the inside and outside of the fortress. It is quite noteworthy to say that the original facilities where created in order to protect the residents from external risks but later were used as prisons for men, women and the military alienating everyone that was considered a threat to the state. Under the general title “Geocultura”, the 8th Biennale seeks not only to raise environmental awareness but also aspires to serve as a means of communication with the world, as an act of justice and freedom, of trust and progressive thinking. The works of over 100 contemporary artists will be exhibited mainly at MOMus alongside various museums and monuments of the city. Live the ritual in Thessaloniki

According to the Orthodox Christianity, the 6th of January is the day when Jesus was baptized and thus every year the local priest blesses the waters by casting a cross into the sea and lots of brave volunteers ignoring the cold dive in trying to recover the cross. In the city center, the Blessing of Waters will be held around 11 o’clock at the seafront where Nikis Avenue meets Agias Sofias Street.
Σύμφωνα με την ορθοδοξία, η 6η Ιανουαρίου είναι η ημέρα βάπτισης του Χριστού κι έτσι κάθε χρόνο ο παππάς κάθε ενορίας καθαγιάζει τα νερά ρίχνοντας το σταυρό στη θάλασσα όπου πολλοί τολμηροί αγνοούν το κρύο και βουτάνε για να πιάσουν το σταυρό. Στο κέντρο της πόλης, ο καθαγιασμός των υδάτων θα γίνει περίπου στις 11 στην παράλια στο ύψος της Άγιας Σοφίας.

Μέσω του Al Jazeera Μέσης Ανατολής, η Θεσσαλονίκη προτείνεται στον αραβικό κόσμο για προσκυνηματικό τουρισμό. Δυο δημοσιογράφοι από το Λίβανο επισκεφτήκαν κι “γευτήκαν” την πόλη μας.

Al Jazeera Arabic recommends Thessaloniki to the Arabic people for pilgrimage tourism . Two journalists from Lebanon visited and “tasted” our city.

A very different auction.

The Municipality of Thessaloniki is holding a special auction marrying wine with art. 150 “Gorgona” wine bottles coming from the Urban Vineyard of Thessaloniki are decorated with custom labels depicting famous works of art displayed in the Municipal Gallery of Thessaloniki. At Casa Bianca on Saturday, October 22nd at 19:00, these unique bottles will be sold in different bundles and the earnings will be donated to a charity.
