The 25th of March is considered one of the most important national holidays of Greece, signifying the start of the Greek War of Independence after 400 years of Ottoman rule, in 1821.
We commemorate this historical day through parades, held by schools, military bodies, NGOs, and many more, looking back to the ideals and values that ignited this fight, that we should always hold close to our minds and hearts.

•HOW TO COME TO THESSALY BY BUS•

🧳 Your Erasmus has almost started! You're probably packing as you're seeing this post, and thinking all about the amazing memories you will make during your semester in Greece.
Coming to one of Thessaly's university cities, chances are you're flying in either in Athens or Thessaloniki, so we have prepared a practical guide for you, letting you in on the easiest way to reach Volos, Larissa, Trikala, Karditsa and Lamia, which means there's nothing more to worry about apart from packing all those shirts and your camera! 📸

📝ΚΤΕΛ or KTEL is the acronym for bus service associations in Greece, and it's also included in most of the country's bus station names.

DISCLAIMER: Unfortunately, you're not yet eligible for student discount on your tickets, as they need to be validated with a Greek University ID, which you will receive after registering at your department. From then on you can enjoy 25 to 50% off on your bus tickets!

Καθώς εξακολουθεί να μαίνεται το πύρινο μέτωπο σε μια από τις βασικές πόλεις του πανεπιστημίου μας, εξαναγκάζοντας εκαντοντάδες ανθρώπους να εκκενώσουν τα σπίτια και τους χώρους εργασίας τους, η σκέψη των εθελοντών μας βρίσκεται με τους πυρόπληκτους, τις πυροσβεστικές δυνάμεις και όλους όσους προσπαθούν να βοηθήσουν στον κατευνασμό της φωτιάς.
Ευελπιστούμε από καρδιάς για τον έλεγχο της πυρκαγιάς στις επόμενες ώρες με όσο το δυνατόν μικρότερες απώλειες σε ανθρώπινες ζωές, ζώα, και φυσικό περιβάλλον.

Τρόποι με τους οποίους μπορούμε όλοι μας να βοηθήσουμε:
✔️Νερό και φαγητό συγκεντρώνονται στην οδό Λαρίσης στο ύψος του Outlet Extreme για τους πυροσβέστες.
✔️Το φιλοζωικό σωματείο Βόλου έχει ήδη εκκενώσει και βρίσκεται στο Πεδίον του Άρεως, χρειάζεται βοήθεια-φιλοξενειά για τους σκύλους που φροντίζει. (τηλ. επικοινωνίας: 6937082952 και 6974079045)
✔️Πολλές επιχειρήσεις και δημοτικά κτίρια έχουν ανοιχθεί προς φιλοξενία των εκκενωθέντων, όπου προσφέρονται κλιματισμός, νερό και φαγητό (Ergon Showground, Δημοτικό εκθεσιακό κέντρο, Cafe Santan κ.α.)
✔️Η ΔΕΥΑΜΒ κάνει έκκληση για περιορισμένη κατανάλωση νερού λόγω έλλειψης από προκεκλημενές από την πυρκαγιά βλάβες στο δίκτυο.
✔️Όσοι βρίσκονται μέσα στη πόλη του Βόλου συνιστάται να μην κυκλοφορούν για πολλή ώρα έξω και να έχουν τα παράθυρα των σπιτιών κλειστά λόγω της ατμοσφαιρικής ρύπανσης.

The devastating wave of wildfires in Greece has also hit one of our main cities, Volos, spreading in the north-west outskirts of the municipality of Magnesia and along the industrial area of Volos and forcing hundreds of people evacuate their living and working areas in a number of neighborhoods.
Our hearts are with our local community, especially those affected by the fires and the firefighting personnel and volunteers.
We all hope the fire is put under control the soonest and with as little losses of people, animals and nature as possible.

Here's some things all of us can do to help:
✔️Water and food packages for the firefighters and volunteers are being collected in the upper Larissis lane, near Outlet Extreme.
✔️The animal welfare association of Volos has already evacuated their main grounds and has put the animals in the greater area of the Polytechnic School, where help with hosting and resources is needed.
✔️A number of businesses and public buildings have opened their doors to evacuees, providing air conditioning, food and water. (Ergon Showground in the Tsalapata display halls, Cafe Santan, Municipal Exhibition Center and more tba).
✔️The municipal water supply authority has advised mindful spending of water as there has been numerous malfunctions caused by the fire, resulting in temporary shortages.
✔️Everyone within the city is advised not to spend a lot of time outside as the atmosphere is heavily impacted by the smoke.
