Camionetas are the buses of Guatemalan public transport. They are former US school buses re-built and customized for bumpy Guatemalan roads.
Camionetas all have different names and colors typical for a specific route. Expect loud cumbia music playing inside. To catch them just put your hand out and wave.

Guatemala is an incredibly green country due to the combination of lots of rain and intense sunshine. Depending on the region you're visiting the sky might be covered in grey clouds or give clear sight on some volcanoes, like the Volcan San Pedro in the picture.

Monterrico is in our opinion the best pacific beach to spend some nights (unless you seek parties, then El Paredon might suit you better).
The grey volcanic sand can get very hot even before noon. Make sure you wear sandals and are using sun lotion.

Nightlife in Antigua is very diverse and usually there are more people on the streets than in the picture.
You find a broad variety of restaurants, bars, cafés and even clubs. Flying vendors in the park provide you with essentials until deep in the night.
Moving around in the night is pretty safe in Antigua, although it's better to walk around in pairs or groups when the clock strikes midnight. Fact is that Antigua is the safest city of Guatemala, due to its touristic value the government mobilizes lots of security forces. On weekends or event days you can even spot police special forces and military units patrolling through Antigua ensuring its safety.

During a procession, Christian brotherhoods and sisterhoods from various churches - up to 70-100 people at once - carry huge wooden boxes around with depictions of biblical scenes. On Semana Santa, almost half of the Streets of Antigua are covered with such carpets.

If you need to withdraw cash in Guatemala, look out for yellow ATM's (5B) or silver blue (BI). Often you find them in pharmacies. If you need to ask someone, ask for "cajero automatico".
