Road 2 Tikal GuateMaya Family Adventure Hub

Road 2 Tikal is your path to a captivating learning hub for families, a magical realm where history and culture come alive.

Who Are We? ADVENTURE is our middle name! For several years, we've embraced a unique lifestyle abroad, unschooling and worldschooling our three children. Immersed in the diverse cultures we've encountered, we've developed a profound passion for Mayan history. Blending unschooling with global exploration, our family has become fervent advocates for sharing the rich tapestry of Mayan heritage. From

ancient ruins to vibrant traditions, we're on a mission to illuminate the beauty of this civilization, determined to bridge cultures and ignite curiosity. From exploring ancient ruins to immersing ourselves in vibrant traditions, we've undertaken a mission: to illuminate the beauty of Mayan history and culture.

El Remate | Peten | Guatemala
Mystic Charm Meets Enchanting Village

Far away from it all ... Yet quite accessible with Flores International airport (FRS) being only half an hour away. El Remate is an escape to another world that can be reached by air in just a few hours.

In the remotest corners of Guatemala lies a rustic village, nestled along the pristine shores of Lake Peten Itza. Its proximity to one of the world's renowned Mayan archaeological sites attracts a modest influx of tourists, injecting a subtle touch of contemporary living. Despite this, our town still remain a very "tranquilo" place where a sort of Caribbean/island type of vibe can be felt.

The people here live a relatively simple and humble life, which appears to be by design, as their joy for life can be felt through their ubiquitous warm smiles and friendly demeanor. Daily life revolves around tending to local farms and ranches, preparing family meals over open fires, and crafting handmade tortillas from home-ground masa. Kids are abundant in this small village, and always outside, always playing, always laughing. Pigs and chickens can be seen freely roaming around, while old cowboys lead their caballos down dusty roads. Exotic wild parrots singing and boisterous monkeys howling from the treetops round out the chorus of abundant life that is rich here in our pueblo.

So Much Mayan History in Our Backyard

The enduring presence of the Mayans in our area is truly remarkable, spanning thousands of years. Have you seen the National Geographic documentaries??? Recent advancements in lidar technology have unveiled a hidden world beneath the jungle canopy. The revelations include over 60,000 structures such as houses, palaces, elevated highways, and various other human-made features that have remained concealed for centuries.

ALL RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN BACKYARD!!!

Tikal, Yaxha, Uaxactun, Topoxte, Tayasal, Ixlu and more are all right here at our doorstep!
Caracol, Lamanai, Xunantunich, Cahal Pech and the mysterious Actun Tunichil Muknal cave system are all just right across the border from us in Belize near San Ignacio.
Other famous sites like El Mirador, Aguateca, Quirigua, Copan, Yaxchilan and Bonampak are all accessible with El Remate as a starting point.
