Multicolores is a Guatemala registered non-profit organization that supports Maya women in their process of self-discovery and artistic development. Multicolores uses art as a tool for exploration and expression, igniting the artists’ many talents and abilities, and empowering them to become powerful agents of change. Multicolores works with groups of Maya K’iché, Kaqchiquel and Tzutujil women fro

m the Guatemalan highlands. Our artists represent 9 communities from the regions of Sololá, Totonicapán, Quiché, Quetzaltenango and Sacatepéquez. Together we are a strong support network that encourages well-being and fulfillment among all members. We believe in mutual aid, promote environmental consciousness and thrive on building relationships with diverse local and international communities.

We are grateful! 🤗 With all of our artists for sharing their knowledge, with our new alumnas for opening up to new forms of collaboration, to our team and collaborators for creating a joyful experience. 🤩

Every tour is a new experience to rediscover that creativity and teamwork have no limits. We look forward to more experiences like this one in 2025!

Throwback to our Cultural Afternoon! 🥰 The closure of our Rug-Hooking Tour and a time to let some joyful tears come out. It was a wonderful adventure, 10 days of culture, dance, rug-hooking, crafts, companionship, and inspiration. We are honored, once more, to host amazing women in search of empowerment, social responsibility 🇬🇹and collaboration through crafts.

Community Visits! 🥳👋🏼 During our visit to the communities: Quiejel and Patanatic, the alumnas had the opportunity to immerse into the artist's life, cultural context and family environment. It’s a heart-warming part of the tour, where artists open up their houses, arms and hearts to share their culture, tradition, gastronomy and idiosyncrasy.

We started out in Quiejel, Chichicastenando. We were welcomed by Leslie, Petronila and Tomasita. There we witnessed the preparation of "White Atole" a traditional beverage made of corn 🌽 and we delighted our eyes with the representation of the folkloric dance of Chichicastenango. This dance makes an ovation to the four elements and the four cardinal points.

Later on, we visited Lucía in the community Patanatic and we had a hands-on experience making Tortillas 😱. It's not as easy as it looks 😂

It was a wonderful day full of knowledge and connection. 🤗 We created a space of freedom, cultural exchange and joy, that filled our hearts with bliss!

Our visit to "La Paca" is always a treasure hunt! Alumnas and artists go looking for garments to match their color palette. For that they have to search between dozens of clothes, which may seem a lot, but artists are experts in this, and in no time they have all the materials they need to start rug-hooking!

Our RUG HOOKING TOUR 2025 is here! 🤩

On the first day, we got the opportunity to visit the community “La Fe”, where we learned the art of basket-making. These women create different pieces with raffa, pajón and pine needles. After some shopping in the community, we continued our Journey to Panajachel.

On the dock artists and alumnas met for the first time. They took a boat ride at sunset from Panajachel to Santa Catarina Palopó, the perfect opportunity for some ice-breaking activities and of course, a lot of dancing. It was the ideal first day! The beginning of rich connections and abundant creativity.

Everlasting memories 🥹

We are so close to our Rug Hooking Tour 2025, and that makes us feel melancholic about all the adventures we have shared these past Rug-Hooking Tours. We love to hear from our alumnas, and we keep them in our hearts and memories. Robin, last year's alumna of the tour, shared with us her finished rug, and we wanted to make a recap of her story in Guatemala. 🇬🇹

She paired up with Tomasa Cúmez, also known as Tomasita, as her buddy. Together they created the design of a wonderful rug that portrays Robin´s nahual and flower motifs inspired by the colors of Guatemala. This beautiful piece has the spirit of both Tomasita and Robin, as you can see by the hooked initials on the artwork. 🥹

These stories inspire us year to year to continue with our Rug-Hooking tours. We believe each tour is a space to connect, create memories, learn from each other, and share joyful and warm moments!

Each alumna along with their teacher spent a whole afternoon designing a unique piece that speaks for both of them.It portrays their connection, knowledge and experience.
