Why is Guatemala the best place for sailfish?
It's not just hearsay but it's backed up with science! The key being habitat compression.

“The recreational billfish fishery in Guatemala is characterized by seasonally high daily sailfish catch rates, consistently 2-3 times higher than anywhere else on Earth, and is entirely catch-and-release.”

“we found support for the theory that local density and habitat compression affect the recreational catch rates. When the habitat was more compressed, Guatemalan anglers fishing in the yearly tournament saw higher catch rates, indicative of increased fish vulnerability to the surface fishing gear. Here, we suggest that catchability is indicative of very localized conditions, and cannot be applied stock-wide”

The Que Vela! started off the day by hookin up and then releasing a Striped Marlin and a Sailfish. Eight other Sailfish were caught and then released gently back into the wild as the day progressed. And so it goes...

The UFB! season continues down in Guatemala! Yesterday we raised 50 sails and two blue marlins releasing 30 sails and a marlin. At one time we had a triple hookup of sails and a blue marlin hooked up at the same time in which we released all! UFB

The sailfishing is red hot in Guatemala! We went 13 for 16 on sails and also raised a marlin today. The seas were pure glass and it was a perfect Guatemalan day. We have a couple open weeks coming up so call now and join us for the fish catching vacation of a lifetime.

The weather here has been a bit rough for the last few days up until yesterday when things finally began to settle. We went 11 catches for 12 hits. The fish were waiting with open mouths.
