3 times ALLURE has travelled to El Salvador to participate in the and 3 times ALLURE has won the Billfish Category. That’s 2 Championships for Capt Jono from the past 2 times he’s taken the boat across from Guatemala. Impressive stuff!! Fantastic fishing for our solo angler John fishing out of the Lodge with Capt Kennedy, over his 2 days on the water he released 52 sailfish from 77 bites and a striped marlin! Hot fishing alert!!! A massive congratulations to Pablo, Rodrigo, Alvaro and Diego representing Club Náutico Guatemala fishing aboard Allure II with Capt Jono and mates Julio and Enio for winning the Overall Billfish Category of the 30th . An incredible win for Team Allure with 65 sailfish releases and 1 blue marlin tagged and released over their 3 days on the water and 7025pts overall. They also took home an extra $5k for 5th place in the fun fish division! What a Tournament for them. Felicidades a todos!!!!

The standings at the end of Day 2 of the . Capt Jono put his team back on them yesterday with 27 sailfish releases! That’s 50 sailfish and 1 blue marlin for team ALLURE II putting them at the top of the table of the Billfish Category with 5500pts……big last day today and with fishing you never can tell, good luck to all the teams. But. C’MON EQUIPO ALLURE!!!!!

Pretty incredible info here. A striped marlin caught off NZ’s NE coast makes the trek to the Galápagos Islands. I thought those stripey’s in the Galápagos were kinda large……

Incredible News for NZ Sportfishing! 🎣

A huge congratulations to Dave Wooff for tagging an extraordinary marlin on January 6th off the Cavalli Islands. The track of this marlin, revealed by the IGFA Great Marlin Race team, is nothing short of legendary. After 244 days, the tag popped off 4,739 nautical miles away, southwest of the Galapagos Islands.

This is now the third-longest pop-off distance in the history of the IGFA Great Marlin Race and shatters the previous record for a striped marlin by more than 2,000nm!

The marlin’s journey, modeled by Stanford University and Barbara Block, shows it spent January and February around East Northland, left New Zealand waters in March, navigated warm waters in May and June, and eventually reached the eastern side of the East Pacific Ridge.

This remarkable feat is a proud achievement for the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club (Inc) satellite tagging program, made possible through the support of the New Zealand Marine Research Foundation. We’re optimistic that this marlin’s incredible trek will make it the 2024 IGFA Great Marlin Race winner.
