I seldom write about the negative or political events in this group, however, I felt the need to today.
Our thoughts and prayers go out today for an event that occurred again in the US this last weekend.
Sunday I sat on the beach in San Pedro La Laguna with friends and their children enjoying a beach outing and a fire. Without ever the thought that a shooter would take our lives. Guatemala is safe, the country only mass shootings occurred during the Civil War.
Two high school seniors on the brink of graduating were among four people inexplicably killed at a Sweet 16 birthday party – leaving an Alabama community engulfed in confusion and grief. At least 15 other teens were also shot and hospitalized Saturday night in Dadeville.
During the Guatemala Civil War Mass shooting occurred. These are the last recorded dates.

San Juan La Laguna is a small town located on the shore of Lake Atitlán in the western highlands of Guatemala. It is part of the Sololá Department and is situated about 155 kilometers (96 miles) west of Guatemala City.

San Juan La Laguna is known for its traditional Mayan culture and handicrafts, particularly weaving and textile production. The town is home to many women's weaving cooperatives where visitors can see the weaving process and purchase handmade textiles and clothing.

In addition to its cultural attractions, San Juan La Laguna offers outdoor activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and kayaking on Lake Atitlán. There are also several natural hot springs located in the surrounding hills that are popular with visitors.

San Juan La Laguna is easily accessible by boat from other towns around Lake Atitlán, such as Panajachel and San Pedro La Laguna. It is also possible to travel to the town by road, either by private vehicle or public transportation. The town has a few basic accommodations and restaurants, but visitors looking for more amenities may prefer to stay in one of the larger towns around the lake.
