Over these last few weeks the current political unrest in Nicaragua has become increasingly unpredictable as the government has intensified it’s repressive tactics, violently targeting people peacefully protesting against the Ortega regime. The people are demanding a) justice for the unlawful killings of peaceful protesters, b) early elections and c) democratic reforms across the board. Their only goal is to return power to the people of Nicaragua through peaceful and democratic measures.

Despite the southern portion of the country where Maderas is located remaining peaceful with virtually no local incidents of conflict, we have decided to take the precautionary measure to temporarily close Maderas Village for the sake of ensuring that none of our guests are impacted by this evolving crises. We are confident that the Nicaraguan people will prevail and emerge from this with strong leaderaship and a democratic system that allows Nicaragua to realise its potential as never before. When that day comes we look forward to re-opening our doors and once again delivering that Maderas experience that has left us all with so many close friends, inspired ideas, and great memories.
