For the People that have been asking we would just like to Clarify that CAPOEY - does not mean "rising of the SUN", it actually is meant to be "Rising of the MOON".

The word "Capoey" can be found in both the Makushi and Wapishana or "Wapichan" languages with some slight variation. Depending on which language you use, the translation turns out to be "moon rising" or "land of the rising moon".

Before European settlers the land was inhabited by Wapichan people who originally gave the area it's name.

A much appropriate name it is! At Lake Capoey you get to view some of the most spectacular Moon settings.

Black-bellied whistling-duck, ~Dendrocygna autumnalis~ flying over the lake this morning in a large flock.

Spotted this spectacled caiman in the far corner of the Lake. They're very beautiful when observing them but are very shy around people. Normally when they spot you they 'duck and beat out'. This one however, was hunting for fish and had one in it's line of sight.

Lake Capoey girls team has done it again. They were successful at winning the top spot at the Amerindian Heritage sports - cricket competition - for Region 2 to Represent the Region at the Heritage Games in Georgetown next week.

We wish them all success as they represent the region as well as Capoey.

Congratulations to Capoey Male and Female Cricket team for their victory today at Kabakaburui.

Both the Men and Women won their respective games and played extremely well.

Congratulations to Kabakaburui men on their win against Capoey in the volleyball competition. They played very well, and, you know, we can't win everything 🙂.
