*Joint Statement From Residents, Councilors and Business-Tourism operators in Lake Capoey*
We the people of Capoey will like to make it emphatically clear that we had no issues with the visit of Mr. Azzrudin Mohamed of Team Mohamed's and totally refute the Statement given by our Toshao that is now making waves over the internet and social media.
Lake Capoey is a touristic community. As such, because we usually have a high volume of customers on a weekly basis, is was decided years ago by the community that we would allow visitors to come into the community on a limited basis without writing for formal permission. Those rules are still in force in the community to accommodate tourism and as such, no letter is needed.
Furthermore, it was told to us that, the Vice-Toshao was informed of the visit by the Team from a community member who handled parts of the organizing and was shared to the Councilors in a group they have via WhatsApp. Team Mohamed's is therefore not responsible for the lack of communication that may have happened between the community organizers, the Vice Toshao, the Councilors, and the Toshao.
There have been misinformation that has been spread concerning the visit of Mr. Azzrudin Mohamed that we will like to clear up.
1. One small boat came before Mr. Mohamed with seven persons not from the community. Another boat with Mr. Mohamed, residents from the other side of the lake, and I would assume - his two body guards came shortly after. It was not boat loads as was said by the Toshao.
2. Team Mohamed's came at the request of multiple villagers. This is a matter of fact and the evidence is there.
3. There was no Councilor of the community disrespected by the team on their visit. The Councilors remained neutral and most remained in the village office while one of the Councilors greeted Mr. Mohamed and spoke to him about agriculture. The Toshao was the only one taking offense to the visit.
4. The loudest persons in the outcry against the Toshao were from the villagers that wanted to see Mohamed there; not from the seven persons visiting with Mohamed.
5. She said that Mr. Mohamed had nothing good to say, on the contrary, Mr. Mohamed, as is normal, gave a small talk and listened to the people's concerns. He did a lot more listening than speaking. He did not flaunt his wealth, he did not make exorbitant promises; he just listened and took notes.
We are disappointed with our Toshao for the misinformation that was spread concerning yesterday. As a leader within a diverse community whose residents supports various organizations and political entities, she needs to be more tolerant.
Indeed, it is a fact that Capoey is largely supportive of the PPP/c. However, there are many other persons that are open to hearing from other people as well. It is also noteworthy that Team Mohamed's came as a humanitarian group and not a political entity.
Finally, to our customers that come to the lake to enjoy tourism. Please do not be detoured by the events that have happened. We welcome all to come and visit for the day. Soon, there will be multiple accommodations complete for you all to stay overnight. We look forward to providing our services, beauty, culture, and peacefulness to the wider Guyana.
