Since opening its doors in 2004, VOLAR has consistently entertained the city’s hip and chic as one of the hottest dance clubs that defines Hong Kong’s ever-growing nightlife. From the powerful sound system, a maze-like layout, two rooms covering a wide spectrum of music genre (hip-hop, R&B, mash-up, dubstep, electronic, and everything in between) to a clientele consisting of music enthusiasts, fas
hionistas, celebrities and fun-loving party people, this award-winning underground establishment has showcased an impressive DJ line up with more than 250 international DJ’s visiting in the past 9 years. As VOLAR continues its mission to offer quality music and a superior clubbing experience to its party-goers, Buzz Concepts decided that it was time for the club to completely revamp its audio and visual hardware. 3 months later, with an upgraded Turbosound system, a brand new acoustic plan, and the installation of over 100 million real and virtual LED pixels, the rebranded VOLAR was born in July of 2013. The Crystal Room (previously named ‘The Circus Lounge’), has been reinvented with the objective of improving acoustics and sound quality of the square-shaped room. Multifaceted angled wall panels and furniture pieces help reduce echo and reverberation, allowing sound to travel evenly within the space. The geometric shapes that have been subsequently designed are further applied as a consistent theme for every corner of the interior, resulting in a cool and sleek design that resembles that of a crystal. A brand new sound-activated LED system is installed to create a dynamic visual solution, and the DJ booth has been relocated to the center of the room to provide better interaction between DJs and clubbers, producing an improved clubbing environment. In the mirrored maze hallway, an innovation lighting solution is installed. The Flower of Life, designed by Chris Levine and provided by UK company C-Light, is a sculptural artwork comprising of over 3,000 slowly moving red laser diodes; the result is a slowly evolving three dimensional nest of laser beams that creates an immersive light experience physically connecting party-goers to the energies of the light. The Nest (previously called ‘The Electronic Room’), takes its name from the nest-like advanced LED lighting structure that covers the walls and the entire ceiling of the room. Numerous angled lines reflect off the mirrors and synchronize to the beat of the music, engulfing you inside the largest interactive lighting configuration ever seen in any dance clubs in Hong Kong. The only underground space in town that houses a 5-way Turbosound speaker system powerful enough for outdoor music festivals, The Nest brings a completely mind-blowing auditory and visual experience that sets new standards in Hong Kong.
