Simon Lorenz - Underwater Photography Water, nature, animals. Any activity around water is good for me. Weightlessness is a powerful feeling.

Under the surface animals let us approach much closer than above the water. I try to capture what I see, and bring the beauty of it to the surface.

Meet our son Maxwell Leo Lorenz. .moments and I are delighted about his arrival just before Christmas, on the 23rd of December 2024. Never having had success while trying for a baby we were surprised by getting pregnant... without trying.
Our adopted son Kai is excited about his baby brother while our animals can sense they have moved further down in the priority list.

Merry Xmas to all of you and good start to the next year. You can rest assured it will be less stressful than ours :-)

Because I was asked to speak about sharks at several highschools this month I finally fulfilled a dream of owning a real shark jaw. I always talk about the shark teeth, their endless replenishment and amazing serration. And now kids can actually see and touch that.

Thank you to for this beautifully preserved tiger shark jaw that was fished under permit in Darwin.

My guest Christina got an amazing swim-by with a large humpback.

The whales just popped up everywhere that day. In this case right next to Christina and me.

Swipe to see how the whale avoids touching her with it's fluke.

There were maybe 40 Orcas and 20 humpbacks. Everyone was feeding deep so we didnt get to see the shoals but on the plus side the whales needed to catch their breath and there was no scale mess at the surface

About yesterday... we had a record of six hours of continuous bait balls. most people started giving up after four or five hours but a couple of diehards stayed all the way until the Arctic Sun finally dissolved into the artic mist.

There was some theory on what was happening because these two orca families were creating and pushing around bait balls, very often not actually eating the herring. Maybe they were trying to teach young. another theory was that the herring was in smaller schoals, and most definitely we didnā€™t have any humpback whales to spoil the party.

Whatever the reason it was a boon for several expedition ships and thousands of seabirds. All my guests got real good close-up experiences with adult males and females as well as younger individuals. It was only day two, weā€™re excited about what to come next.

We had several sightings of these two whalesharks. Tell the size by the jacks riding shotgun

One was the large pregnant female we expected around 12m. The other a surprisingly small juvenile, maybe 3m

Happy 2nd Birthday my little man! What an incredible human you are becoming. And indicators are scuba daddy's big hopes for your love for the underwater world are being met with enthusiasm.

It is a bit bizarre that he smiles every time he is underwater, especially because he would drown if he wouldn't be pulled up. But I will take it as a real good sign.
moments and I are very proud and grateful for little KaiKai
