The community owns a large section of land that is unmanaged by man, but have opened it for tourists who wish to witness the untouched, virgin forest. Manazapa is a small community located in the hills of Intibucá, Western Honduras. With over 100 acres of to walk through, the area offers steep slopes, winding river valleys, slippery logs and rocks to climb over all surrounded by the beautiful, nat

ural Central American forest. The area is home to some of the continent´s most exotic animals; Toucans, Jaguars and Armadillos to name a few. Camping will soon be available for tourists on the hilltop of a mountain nearby the community of Manazapa, with the future vision being that there will be wood cabins for tourists to stay in, to have a more comfortable stay in the forest. The ecotourism project was set up by international volunteers working with Progressio and Jóvenes Liderando Cambios (JLC) through a scheme funded by the British government called International Citizen Service. Jovenes Liderando Cambios literally translates Youth Leading Changes. This is obvious in Manazapa as the youth of the community have been given the responsibility of leading the ecotourism project. Through workshops conducted by international volunteers working with JLC, the youths will be able to communicate with tourists, maintain a sustainable tourist attraction and be able to work as a team to make sure the community gets as much out of the initiative as possible. https://www.facebook.com/JovenesLiderandoCambios?fref=ts
