Añoranza is Located on the northeast shore of Roatan, in the Western Caribbean. Just off the shore is the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world, the Mesoamerican reef.

You can’t stay at Añoranza without spending a day on the beach at Camp Bay Beach. Different than Camp Bay Lodge which has another one of our favorite beaches. It’s what West Bay was before all the hotels and development. There are no hotels, just palm trees. There are no restaurants just one pop up cook with a limited menu. Pack a cooler with lunch and drinks and enjoy the white sand, crystal clear water and east wind breeze.

Another must stop place on your boat tour to West Bay is ✔️. It’s a great spot to stop for lunch but if you don’t have lunch, at least have one of their amazing craft cocktails. If our friend, is behind the bar ask for one of his Jessy Specials. You won’t be disappointed by any drinks there.

At you have the opportunity to “interact with Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins in a natural sea-water environment. You can get up close to a dolphin during a 30-minute Dolphin Encounter or spend up to 60 minutes with the group during the Dolphin Swim & Snorkel. Consider the Dolphin Trainer-for-a-Day or Dolphin Specialty Course if you crave more extensive knowledge.”

We love to have Captain Raul pick us up at the Añoranza dock and take us to the West End with a stop at Anthony Key 1st. Make sure you make reservations. The 30 min dolphin encounter is $65.

Today is the final day of Roatan's 22nd Catch & Release Billfish Tournament. It began on Sept. 16th and will end today, Sept. 19th. Although, we weren’t in the tournament, we felt like we were last month when we caught this billfish. Maybe 2022 we will participate. Roatanet.com explains, “Each year in September, Roatan hosts the International Fishing Tournament in West End. The event is centered on September 15th, which is Independence Day in Honduras. West End celebrates Independence Day with a Carnival, with the Fishing Tournament included in the celebrations. The International Fishing Tournament is Roatan’s largest annual event, bringing people from all around the world to Roatan for a week of fun and entertainment. Cue Dolphins 🐬!!! 15 minutes after being picked up by the boat, at our dock, we were in the water with these beautiful creatures. They played all the way from Paya Bay to Camp Bay, inside the reef. Sorry for the “LOOK, LOOK” commentary during the video but my 5 year old daughter was looking the wrong way 🤦‍♂️. Our past trip to Añoranza we tried something we’ve been wanting to do for a long time, hike to the highest point on Roatán. The East End is home to the Port Royal Wildlife Refuge, over 2,000 acres of land set aside for the protection of the island's animals and birds. The highest peak on the island, Picacho, is located in this reserve. It’s about a 3.5 mile hike roundtrip and took us about 1.5 hours. We recommend parking/starting @payabayresort and hiring Ramon as your guide. It’s $12 a person and Paya Bay Resort will have a snack waiting for you when you finish. A little warm up before the hike are the trails around Paya Bay Resort.
