Yesterday’s trash pick up
during our morning walk was water bottles.
This is why so many places encourage reusable/fillable water bottles.
These bottles and caps can hurt sea life and litter the beautiful sea & beaches.

Most unique, teeny tiniest and biggest!
We found, collected and disposed of 37 shoes, washed up during hurricane Lisa, from just one little section of beach.
What can we learn from this beach walk experience? 🤔...wooden wedge shoes aren't really practical here, but the wood holds up surprisingly well compared to the straps? ..big or little, blue is a popular color? ..crocks inventors must by now be uber rich because the shoes are popular world wide? ..jibitz (crock decoration add on pieces) really do stay put well-even through a hurricane and wash up? ..or how about, if this many odd shoes can wash up on one little part of the beach, perhaps we just prefer being bare foot after all, since apparently this many people took their shoes off, never to find them again. 🤣

Awww…what poor baby is missing this cutie patootie little shoe?!?
The tropical storm (hurricane Lisa for some places) when we were here 2 weeks ago, washed up a ton of trash..,one thing that baffles my mind is the amount of shoes!!! From the ocean!!! Washed up during the storm! This trash was NOT here before the storm.

GUESS…how many shoes did we count on our walk this morning?! 🩴👟🥿🩴

Tomorrow we’ll be bringing a bag and picking up trash along the way.

TIP: Make a copy of your passport and important documents. Leave a copy with someone not traveling with you and email yourself or have in your phone photos a photo copy as well. It's not always practical, or a good idea, to walk around with your passport-but if something ever happened and you need it-you'll be prepared. Also, if your passport gets lost or stolen, the copy with details will expedite the process of getting it replaced and for filing a police report if needed.

TIP: Contact your bank card or credit card companies & your phone company to alert them to your travel.

If traveling out of the country, your phone will likely need a temporary upgrade if you want to be able to use cellular data while on your trip. Many companies offer a travel plan that costs about $10 a day if used. Your cards could get declined for suspected fraud if you don't alert them of your travel destinations.

TIP: Wear a sweater or light jacket on travel day.
Even if you are going somewhere hot.
You don't need to make space for it in your suitcase. If you are hot and not wearing it, you can always loop it through the handle of your bag.

Airports & airplanes are notoriously chilly.
And even hot travel destinations can get cool at night.
Better to have at least one thing to keep you warm, then to wind up spending your souvenir cash on a sweatshirt or jacket you might not really love or want but need because you are cold.

TIP: Pack light.
Then re-pack, and pack lighter.
Then go through one more time and take out even more.

You won't wear half of the things you pack the first time
and you don't need most of the extra stuff you think you might.

You can wear the same items more than once, that dressy outfit might not even get used, and you'll likely wind up wearing the shoes that are most comfy that you love instead of changing them to match outfits.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, melted
FILLING:
3 large eggs
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups sweetened shredded coconut, divided

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°. Line a 13x9-in. baking pan with parchment, letting ends extend up sides.
In a large bowl, mix flour, brown sugar and salt; stir in 1 cup melted butter. Press onto bottom of prepared pan. Bake until light brown, 12-15 minutes. Cool 10 minutes on a wire rack. Reduce oven setting to 325°.
In a large bowl, whisk the first 7 filling ingredients until blended; stir in 3 cups coconut. Pour over crust; sprinkle with remaining coconut. Bake until light golden brown, 25-30 minutes. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Lifting with parchment, remove from pan. Cut into bars.
