Did you know that the traditional fishing boat of Utila is known as a Dory? 🎣 Traditionally, Utilians built their dories by carving out the trunk of large trees (mainly Mahogany) and because of the dory, Utilians have been able to be deeply intertwined with the rhythms of the sea. 🌊💙
Fishing has a deep foundation in the history and culture of the island, and it not only has been a source of livelihood throughout generations in Utila but it also reflects the island’s rich heritage and connection to the ocean! 🤩
While our charter boat is not a Dory, Captain Joe still loves to share his culture and heritage through showing hand-line fishing to our guests.

🤿 Did you know you can get scuba training and certifications with us?
All of our courses are private and led by our co-founder Sabina who has extensive experience teaching as a full time Instructor in Utila and the Pacific Northwest, training divers of all ages from beginner to professional level.
We offer SDI and PADI certifications ranging from Discover Scuba Dive experiences for beginners to professional level training programs. All of our guests have access to incorporate scuba training to their charter with us or book to come specifically for dive training with Sabina.

When we are asked what makes this island so special, we always say it’s its people. And when we think of an iconic figure, Tom Jones always comes to mind.
It’s is so hard to put into words the love for the island that Tom had. A warrior of the environment, a lover of nature, a protector of his land. The only thing greater than his love for Utila is the gigantic void that will linger in our community after his passing last month.
Nobody knew Utila as well as this man. He was one with nature. He lived in and off the land and shared his knowledge and art with others. Our wish is that humans learn to love and protect nature as much as he did.
Rest in peace, Tom Jones (aka Akiabu). Thank you for your teachings. You were loved by many. 🌸 🥥 🌺 🕊️

Exciting news💥💥
On March 18th, we welcomed our 2nd boat to the Off the Dock fleet!
It’s been a huge step for us and having a 2nd boat had been in our plans for a while. Our first love, the Miss Issela II has served us well and we were able to adapt her for diving (she’s a fishing boat) but we always knew that we needed a boat specifically decked for the needs of divers.
Hailing from Roatan, she was built for divers and has spacious seating, a comfortable platform and ladder for easy access into/out of the water, and…oh my! 2 fresh water bins for masks and cameras🥹
We’ve been taking advantage of using her this past month, and now she’s on dry dock and will be out of the water until we finish adding all the upgrades we want so that it is the best boat we can offer to our guests.
First order of business: registering her name to what we always knew we’d name our 2nd boat… she will be called THE GRATITUDE 🤍
Thank you to EVERYONE who has supported our journey and has helped us get to where we are and have believed in us. We know that we would not be able to have gotten here alone.
Stay tuned for updates on her refit and we can’t wait for you to join us on some epic diving and fishing!!
