On Easter morning, April 15th, 1979, at 7:19:43, exactly 45 years ago, the Dubrovnik area was hit by the strongest earthquake in recent history. The epicenter of the earthquake was a magnitude 6.9 off the coast of Montenegro, about 100 kms from Dubrovnik.

On that occasion, the “Law on the Reconstruction of Dubrovnik” was adopted, and the Reconstruction Institute was established, which still oversees the process today. During the reconstruction, archaeological research was conducted, with those within and near the Cathedral proving to be exceptionally important in understanding the city's earliest history.

IMPORTANT INFO for today❗️
🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️There is a marathon "Du Motion" taking place today in Dubrovnik, which has resulted in some special traffic regulations being put in place.

After 9 am, all buses and taxis will only be able to go as far as the "Dom zdravlja stop." This means that the last 1.1 km towards our meeting point will need to be covered on foot, as traffic in all directions from the west towards the old town will be closed.

The route to our meeting point is fairly straightforward, and we have included a link to the approximate Google Maps directions for the 1.1 km walk:

On 1 January 2023, Croatia will replace the kuna with the euro, which will become our new currency!

Euro coin series comprises eight different denominations:
1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent, €1 and €2.
The geographical map of Croatia is featured on the €2 coin, the edge of which features a circular
inscription of a verse on freedom ("O lijepa, o draga, o slatka slobodo") by Dubrovnik poet Ivan Gundulić.

Kuna, as the symbol of the Croatian monetary tradition since the 13th century, is featured on a one euro denomination.

The portrait of the inventor Nikola Tesla is featured on
denominations of 50, 20, and 10 cents.

The official two letter code for Croatia, HR, is featured on 5, 2 and 1 cent coins, written in a Glagolitic script in a form that links these two letters into a single typographic symbol.

The Croatian checkerboard is the motif featured in the background of all coins.

History in the making! As of today Croatian territory is connected into one! The only such case in the entire EU... Where Dubrovnik region was physically disconnected from the rest of the country and one had to cross Bosnian border to exit and reenter Croatia (for only 20kms, but still, the hassle is over).

We no longer feel like we live on an island!
Approximately 90,000 people, including residents in Dubrovnik, remained cut off from the rest of the country until now.
